What they need

Summary:

The Material Handler supports our bottling operations by receiving, verifying, storing, staging, and moving dry goods and finished goods between our warehouse and production facility. This role keeps inventory counts accurate, records all material movements in our inventory system using a handheld scanner, and reports discrepancies to the dry goods team. The Material Handler works closely with the bottling team to verify staged materials before each bottling run, find substitutions when needed, and make sure finished goods are counted, labeled, and stored correctly.

Reports to: Bottling Manager

Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Compensation: $22/hour

Shift: Monday - Friday 1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Receive inbound dry goods following the “Receiving Dry Goods” SOP.

  • Check deliveries against bills of lading (BOLs), purchase orders, and packing slips, including handwritten BOLs.

  • Confirm item numbers, descriptions, quantities, lot numbers, and specs such as glass, closures, capsules, labels, cartons, and dividers.

  • Inspect materials for damage, contamination, or incorrect items. Document and report any issues, and quarantine nonconforming materials.

  • Label and put away received materials in their assigned storage locations.

  • Use a handheld scanner to record receipts, transfers, consumption, and returns in real time.

  • Enter inventory data into NAV accurately and on time, including quantities, locations, and lot numbers.

  • Do physical counts, cycle counts, and year-end counts. Consolidate partial pallets and cases.

  • Research and resolve count discrepancies, and report variances to the Inventory Coordinator.

  • Rotate stock first-in, first-out (FIFO) and keep storage locations organized and clearly labeled.

  • Pick and stage dry goods for scheduled bottling runs using NAV documents and bills of materials from the Inventory Coordinator.

  • Before each run, review staged materials with the bottling team and Inventory Coordinator to confirm the right items, quantities, and lots, and to decide on any substitutions.

  • Restock materials at the bottling line during runs so the line keeps running.

  • After each run, return unused materials to inventory, then count them and record them in NAV.

  • Move finished goods from the bottling line to the warehouse.

  • Verify case counts, SKUs, vintage, and lot or bottling codes against production paperwork.

  • Make sure pallets are built, stretch-wrapped, and labeled correctly.

  • Record finished goods production and returns in NAV so lots can be traced.

  • Help stage and load finished goods for transfers and customer orders.

  • Safely operate a forklift, pallet jack, and handheld scanner. Do daily pre-use equipment inspections.

  • Follow all safety, GMP, and food safety procedures, and wear required PPE.

  • Keep the warehouse, staging areas, and aisles clean, clear, and organized.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or GED required. Two-year degree or higher preferred.

  • At least 2 years of inventory management or control experience required. Winery or beverage warehouse experience strongly preferred.

  • Current forklift certification, or the ability to get certified within 30 days of hire.

  • Experience using a handheld scanner and entering data into an ERP or inventory system (Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central a plus).

  • Strong grasp of inventory counting, unit-of-measure conversions (for example, pallets to cases to units), and lot tracking.

  • Able to do basic and complex math quickly and accurately.

  • High accuracy in data entry and documentation, with strong attention to detail.

  • Able to read and interpret BOLs, purchase orders, bills of materials, work orders, and SOPs.

  • Basic computer skills (email, Excel, inventory software).

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Clear communicator who works well on their own and with the bottling, production, and inventory teams.

  • Flexible and willing to adapt to changing priorities and production schedules, including occasional early starts, overtime, or weekends during bottling and harvest season.

  • Committed to safety and to keeping the work area clean and organized.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs over moderate distances.
  • Stand, walk, bend, push, pull, reach, climb, kneel, and turn for 8 or more hours per day.
  • Work in a warehouse and production environment with varying temperatures, noise from bottling equipment, and forklift traffic.
  • Wear required PPE, such as safety shoes, a high-visibility vest, and hearing protection where needed.
  • Read and interpret documents, scanner displays, and labels.
