Material Handler

KP Staffing Phoenix is now hiring material handlers for a steel manufacturing company in El Mirage, AZ!

Job Summary

The material handler will move and stage steel beams, plates, and assemblies using overhead cranes, load and unload trucks and rail cars, and support the shop with cleaning, painting, and general upkeep.

Pay

$21.45 per hour

Shift

1st shift: 5:00am – 3:30pm, Mon – Thurs, with Fridays as necessary.

2nd shift: 3:30pm – 2:00am, Mon – Thurs, with Fridays as necessary.

Shift is assigned after completing the training period. Overtime may be required.

Duties

• Operate overhead crane systems to move steel beams, plates, and assemblies
• Rig and secure steel for lifting and moving throughout the shop
• Load and unload trucks and rail cars
• Handle and move small pieces of steel and shop equipment weighing 10–50 pounds
• Assist with cleaning and painting steel, including handling paint and solvents
• Occasionally drive a forklift or tractor to support shop and yard operations
• Perform yard and building cleaning tasks
• Assist with maintenance of the building and equipment
• Follow shop supervisor instructions, as tasks may vary based on shift and production needs

Qualifications

• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in structural steel shops and/or overhead crane use
• Heavy equipment operation and extensive forklift experience do not reflect the daily work of this role and are not typically a good fit
• Must successfully complete the company's required training period
• High school education preferred
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently without constant supervision
• Ability to safely handle steel and shop equipment weighing 10–50 pounds
• Adequate strength, mobility, dexterity, vision, hearing, and stamina to perform the job with minimal assistance
• Ability to work overtime as needed
