About Us
Community Thrift is a locally owned thrift store bringing affordable treasures and community giving to Hermiston! We’re opening our new location at 1625 N First St. in May 2026 and building a reliable, hardworking team to help us launch successfully.
Position Summary
We’re looking for strong, dependable Material Handlers to keep our donation process running smoothly. You’ll be the backbone of the back-of-house operations — accepting donations, moving furniture and heavy items, pre-sorting, pricing, restocking the sales floor, performing cleanup, and supporting our textile and wares teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Accept donations from customers and unload incoming items safely and efficiently
- Handle and move furniture, large donations, and other heavy items using carts, dollies, and other equipment
- Pre-sort donations by category before they go to specialized teams
- Price and prepare items for the sales floor according to store guidelines
- Restock the sales floor as needed to keep displays full and attractive
- Perform general cleanup and organization in the back-of-house area
- Provide general aid and support to the textile sorters/pricers and wares sorters/pricers
- Work cooperatively with the team to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
What We’re Looking For
- Reliable and punctual team players with a strong work ethic
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs repeatedly) and stand for long periods
- Comfort working with furniture and a variety of donated goods in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude and willingness to help teammates
- Forklift experience is helpful (but not required — we can train on other equipment)
- Flexibility to work some weekends
- No prior experience required — we provide full training on our processes and safety guidelines!
Benefits
- Starting pay at Oregon minimum wage ($15.05/hr)
- Employee discount on all purchases
- Flexible scheduling
- Fun, team-oriented work environment
- Opportunity to grow with a new local business
- Make a difference — part of every sale supports local nonprofits
