Material Handling Lab Technician

Purpose

The Material Handling Lab Technician performs hands-on laboratory and pilot-scale testing of bulk materials. This position prepares samples, sets up and operates equipment, records measurements, completes routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting, and maintains accurate test documentation by following established procedures and assigned test instructions.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive, label, stage, and prepare customer-supplied bulk material samples for testing.
• Set up, operate, monitor, and shut down laboratory and pilot-scale material-handling equipment in accordance with approved procedures, test instructions, and safety requirements.
• Perform assigned tests for particle size, debris content, bulk density, angle of repose, conveying performance, and other physical properties using applicable ASTM, ISO, or internal methods.
• Measure, observe, and accurately record operating conditions and test results using manual logs, scales, gauges, sensors, and electronic data-acquisition tools.
• Complete test records and routine reports that document sample information, equipment settings, observations, results, and equipment issues.
• Inspect, clean, and prepare equipment before and after testing; perform assigned preventive maintenance, calibration checks, and basic mechanical or instrumentation troubleshooting.
• Assemble and reconfigure approved piping, hoses, fittings, test fixtures, and equipment components for scheduled tests using drawings and written instructions.
• Identify abnormal equipment conditions, test interruptions, or data inconsistencies and promptly escalate them to the appropriate technical resource.
• Maintain sample traceability, lab supplies, tools, equipment records, housekeeping, and waste-handling practices.
• Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment; perform other duties as assigned.
