Position Overview:

The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the availability of raw materials, components, and supplies required for wiring harness production. They coordinate procurement, inventory control, and material flow to support efficient manufacturing operations while minimizing excess stock and shortages.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Material Planning & Scheduling

• Develop and maintain material requirement plans based on production schedules.
• Ensure timely availability of materials to meet production deadlines.
• Monitor and adjust material plans in response to demand fluctuations, supplier delays, or production changes.

2. Inventory Management

• Maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent shortages and overstocking.
• Track aged and slow-moving materials to prevent obsolescence.
• Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) and JIT (Just-In-Time) inventory practices.

3. Supplier Coordination & Procurement

• Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials.
• Evaluate supplier performance and identify potential risks or delays.
• Assist in negotiating contracts and lead times with suppliers.

4. Demand & Forecasting

• Analyze customer orders, sales forecasts, and historical data to predict material needs.
• Adjust planning parameters to align with business requirements.
• Collaborate with sales, production, and procurement teams for accurate forecasting.

5. Production Support

• Coordinate with production teams to resolve material shortages or quality issues.
• Ensure material handling and storage procedures comply with safety standards.
• Minimize production downtime by proactively addressing material-related bottlenecks.

6. Data Management & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, purchase orders, and material movements.
• Generate reports on material consumption, shortages, and cost trends.
• Utilize ERP/MRP systems for material tracking and planning.

7. Cost Control & Optimization

• Identify cost-saving opportunities in material procurement and inventory management.
• Reduce waste and excess stock through process improvements.
• Optimize order quantities and lead time to balance cost and availability.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in material planning, preferably in the wiring harness or automotive industry.
• Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (Oracle, etc.).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and negotiation abilities.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing, JIT, and Kanban principles.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
