What they need
Materials & Purchasing Coordinator
Connected Technology is looking for a highly organized, dependable, and resourceful Materials & Purchasing Coordinator to help keep our electricians and project teams supplied and productive.
This position will begin part-time while you train and learn our systems, materials, vendors, and processes. We expect the position to quickly grow into a full-time role as you become comfortable with the responsibilities and take ownership of the position. Benefits are available for full time employees.
This is not simply a warehouse position.
You will review upcoming jobs, evaluate material requirements, purchase and source materials, coordinate with vendors, pick up and deliver materials, and maintain our small warehouse. The goal is simple: make sure our technicians have the right materials, in the right place, at the right time.
You will work closely with the owner, project managers, office staff, and field technicians to anticipate material needs and solve problems before they affect a job.
The right person will be comfortable making purchasing decisions, communicating with vendors, learning electrical products, supporting technicians in the field, and occasionally jumping in the vehicle to pick up or deliver whatever is needed.
What You Will DoMaterials Planning & Job Support
- Review upcoming electrical, EV charger, solar, battery, HVAC, and other projects to determine material requirements
- Work with project managers, technicians, estimators, and management to confirm job-specific material needs
- Prepare materials for upcoming jobs
- Identify missing or unusual materials before the installation date
- Help technicians solve material and equipment issues that arise in the field
- Coordinate last-minute material needs when job conditions change
- Follow through to make sure materials are ready before crews arrive
Purchasing & Vendor Management
- Purchase electrical equipment, parts, and job materials
- Obtain pricing and availability from multiple suppliers when appropriate
- Make good purchasing decisions considering price, availability, quality, and timing
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with our vendors and supply houses
- Place orders and track outstanding purchases
- Coordinate special-order materials
- Identify alternative products when preferred materials are unavailable
- Help manage returns, credits, warranty items, and unused materials
- Look for opportunities to reduce material costs without sacrificing quality
Warehouse & Inventory
- Maintain an organized, clean, and functional small warehouse
- Receive incoming materials and deliveries
- Organize materials by job and/or inventory location
- Maintain appropriate levels of commonly used materials
- Identify inventory shortages before they become problems
- Help prevent unnecessary duplicate purchases
- Maintain accountability for company materials, tools, and equipment
- Assist with periodic inventory counts
Pickup & Delivery
- Pick up materials from electrical supply houses and other vendors
- Deliver materials to technicians and active job sites
- Coordinate deliveries based on job schedules and field priorities
- Respond when technicians need additional or unexpected materials
- Safely load, transport, and unload materials and equipment
What We Are Looking For
This position requires someone who can think, not simply follow a shopping list.
You should be able to look at a job, understand what is likely to be needed, ask questions when something does not make sense, and take ownership of getting the materials ready.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is highly organized
- Has good judgment and problem-solving skills
- Takes ownership and follows tasks through to completion
- Works well independently but enjoys being part of a team
- Can prioritize when several technicians need assistance at the same time
- Communicates well with technicians, office staff, management, and vendors
- Is comfortable making purchasing decisions
- Pays attention to cost without allowing small savings to create large field problems
- Has a sense of urgency
- Is dependable and willing to help wherever needed
Qualifications
- Electrical, construction, solar, HVAC, or home-service industry experience strongly preferred
- Electrical material and equipment knowledge is a major plus
- Purchasing, warehouse, inventory, or supply-house experience preferred
- Experience working directly with vendors preferred
- Strong organizational and computer skills
- Ability to learn new electrical equipment and product lines
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Ability to safely lift and move typical electrical and construction materials
- Comfortable driving to vendors and job sites throughout the workday
Schedule & Growth
This role will start as a part-time position during the training period. During that time, you will learn our materials, vendors, warehouse, purchasing processes, job workflow, and how our field teams operate.
Our intention is for this position to quickly transition into a full-time role as you become trained and are able to independently manage the materials and purchasing needs of the company.
We are looking for someone who wants to grow into the position and become an important long-term member of our team.
Success in This Position
A successful Materials & Purchasing Coordinator becomes an important resource for the entire team.
Our technicians should be able to arrive at a job knowing that the materials have been thought through and are ready. Our project managers should know that orders are being tracked. Our vendors should know who to contact. Our warehouse should stay organized. And when something unexpected happens in the field, you should be someone the team can count on to help solve it.
You won't work alone—you'll work closely with management, the office team, project managers, and our field technicians.
If you enjoy organizing, purchasing, solving problems, working with vendors, supporting a field team, and having a job where every day is a little different, we'd like to hear from you.
