What they need
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Materials Management Assistant (Band 3) to join our busy and dynamic Procurement and Supply Chain team at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a hands-on role that plays a vital part in supporting frontline clinical services by ensuring wards and departments have the right products, in the right place, at the right time. Working primarily within clinical areas across Southmead Hospital, including the state-of-the-art Brunel Building, you will help manage and replenish a wide range of medical and non-medical consumables that are essential for patient care.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being active, organised and customer-focused, and who takes pride in delivering a high-quality service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
“Around £1bn could be saved through better procurement” – Lord Carter
As a Materials Management Assistant, you will work as part of a team responsible for ensuring stock and supplies are effectively managed across a variety of hospital departments.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintaining agreed stock levels through routine replenishment activity.
Generating and processing orders using established stock control systems.
Receiving, checking and unpacking deliveries in line with departmental procedures.
Ensuring storage areas are safe, organised and maintained to a high standard.
Building positive working relationships with clinical teams, support services and external suppliers.
Monitoring stock availability and resolving supply issues to minimise disruption to patient services.
Working across a range of departments and locations throughout the Southmead Hospital site.
Supporting the Trust's commitment to efficient procurement and value for money.
This role requires a proactive approach, excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering a reliable service to our clinical teams.

With an annual turnover of £2.3 billion, we are now one of the largest NHS trusts in the United Kingdom. Our hospitals are spread across Bristol and Weston, join us and you can enjoy the very best of both worlds; city living within a stone’s throw of the countryside or beside the seaside, both with easy access to all that the South West has to offer. Bristol NHS Foundation Trust values all people as individuals. As an equal opportunities employer actively working towards a diverse workforce we aim to recruit and retain a workforce which represents the rich diversity of the local population at all levels and are committed to designing our services around the needs of individual patients and those around them. Experience of working within an office environment is also desirable. We are a customer focused team, therefore good communication skills are required, as well as a strong team ethic.
You will become part of a team of staff covering the Southmead Hospital site. Shifts will be allocated on a rotational basis across the team to cover the service hours of 7:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday; as such you must be available to work any 7.5 hour shift within those hours.
