Job Advert to Materials Manager
Job Summary
The Materials Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling the supply, storage and distribution of materials for OSP projects, ensuring timely availability of cables, poles, hardware, tools and other project requirements. The role manages material procurement and deliveries, warehouse operations, receiving and quality checks, site issuance and inventory reconciliation, while minimizing wastage, loss and shortages. The role also coordinates with project teams, subcontractors and customers and provides accurate materials status and inventory reports to management.
Location: Delta
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage material requirements plans (MRP) based on project schedules, BOQs and design packages; ensure timely and adequate supply of cables, poles, hardware, tools, equipment and consumables to support construction progress.
- Coordinate with area manager and materials leader on purchase orders, delivery schedules, inbound logistics; track and expedite material arrivals to avoid site idle time.
- Supervise receiving and quality inspections of inbound materials — verifying quantity, specification, certificates and conformity against purchase orders; handle rejections, returns.
- Manage regional warehouses: layout planning, storage conditions, stock location, shelf life, FIFO/control measures, security, and periodic stocktakes (cycle counts and full physical inventories).
- Control material issuance to construction sites and engineering teams against approved requisitions; maintain accurate issue logs and minimize wastage, loss and pilferage.
- Maintain up-to-date material ledgers and inventory systems, reconciling physical stock with system records; generate inventory, consumption, shortage and obsolescence reports for management.
- Manage surplus, damaged and obsolete materials — disposition through reallocation, return or approved disposal — and keep accurate records to protect project cost and assets.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, subcontractors and customers on material matters and report materials status, risks and issues to the project management team.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field; relevant certification (CIPS, CSCP, or similar) is an advantage.
- At least 3 years of experience in materials management, warehousing or supply chain within construction, telecommunications or EPC-style project environments; OSP/telecom experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with telecom OSP materials — optical fiber cables, ducts, poles, hardware fittings, splicing materials and tools — is highly desirable.
- Strong command of inventory/ERP systems and MS Office (Excel is essential).
- Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to accuracy in stock records and reports.
