What they need
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a global manufacturing business on the appointment of a Material Planner on a full-time permanent basis. This is an excellent chance to progress your career within supply chain with a modern, employee focused business. The successful candidate will be enrolled in a supply chain course at the business's expense.
Role Overview
As Materials Planner you will play a pivotal role in coordinating material supply across the manufacturing operation. Working closely with production, engineering, logistics and suppliers, you will ensure components are available when required while driving efficiencies across inventory, supplier performance and procurement processes.
Material Planner Key Responsibilities
- Analyse customer demand, sales orders and forecast data to accurately determine material requirements.
- Utilise ERP/MRP systems to generate procurement plans and manage purchasing activities.
- Raise and manage purchase orders to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
- Coordinate delivery schedules in response to engineering changes, production revisions and shifting business priorities.
- Maintain optimum inventory levels by balancing stock availability with agreed inventory and working capital targets.
- Monitor slow-moving and obsolete inventory, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions to minimise financial exposure.
- Support inventory accuracy through cycle counting activities and stock investigations alongside warehouse and logistics teams.
- Provide suppliers with rolling demand forecasts to support capacity planning and ensure continuity of supply.
- Proactively monitor supplier commitments, escalating potential shortages or delivery issues before they impact production.
- Measure supplier delivery performance, identifying trends and driving improvements where service levels fall below expectations.
- Work closely with logistics providers to optimise inbound deliveries while reducing premium freight costs wherever possible.
Material Planner Criteria
- Previous experience within a Materials Planning, Purchasing or Supply Chain role in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret production data, forecasts and complex planning information.
- Strong working knowledge of MRP methodologies and ERP systems such as SAP, LN or similar platforms.
