Materials Planner

About This Role If you share our ambition and are looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic and growing organization, we invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position: The role is responsible for planning, forecasting, coordinating and monitoring the availabilities of materials, spare parts, consumables and other inventory required to support safe and efficient mining and processing operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Materials Planning
• Develop and maintain materials and inventory plans based on operational requirements, maintenance plans, production schedules and historical consumption.
• Review material requirements and determine appropriate reorder levels, minimum/maximum stock levels and safety-stock requirements.
• Translate maintenance and operational requirements into material requirements and replenishment plans.
• Identify critical materials and ensure adequate availability to support continuous operations.
• Monitor lead times and incorporate supplier delivery performance into planning activities.
• Review and update Material Requirements Planning (MRP) parameters in the ERP system
• Inventory Management
• Monitor inventory levels, stock movements and consumption trends.
• Identify slow-moving, non-moving, excess and obsolete inventory.
• Recommend actions to reduce excess and obsolete stock.
• Monitor stock-outs and investigate the causes and corrective actions.
• Ensure critical spares are appropriately classified and stocked.
• Support periodic stock counts and reconciliation of physical inventory against system records.
• Maintain accurate inventory data, including stock levels, reorder points, lead times and planning parameters.
• Maintenance & Operations Support
• Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Processing, Mining, Technical Services and other operational departments to understand upcoming material requirements.
• Review preventive and corrective maintenance plans and identify associated material requirements.
• Participate in shutdown/turnaround planning to ensure materials are available before scheduled work.
• Support the planning of major equipment maintenance, component replacements and capital projects.
• Escalate potential material shortages that could affect production or maintenance schedules
• Procurement Coordination
• Generate and/or recommend purchase requisitions based on approved material requirements.
• Coordinate with Procurement to ensure purchase orders are raised and delivered within required lead times.
• Follow up on outstanding purchase orders and supplier commitments.
• Monitor supplier delivery performance and highlight delays that may affect operations.
• Work with Procurement to identify alternative sources or equivalent materials where appropriate.
• Ensure procurement activities are aligned with approved budgets and company procedures.
• ERP / Data Management
• Maintain accurate material master and planning data in the ERP system.
• Review and correct inaccurate or incomplete material information.
• Monitor system-generated purchase requisitions and replenishment recommendations.
• Ensure proper coding, descriptions, units of measure and planning parameters for materials.
• Produce materials planning and inventory reports from the ERP system.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

• Minimum of HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical or Electricals) from a recognized tertiary institution.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in mining, mineral processing, power generation, or heavy industry, with demonstrated experience managing shutdowns.
• Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competency issued by the Mines Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission is desirable.
• Excellent knowledge in Maintenance Planning.
• Shutdown planning skill and experience highly regarded.
• Knowledge of a standard work management system.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel.
• Excellent leadership, management, and technical skills relevant to the effective provision of maintenance services.
• Ability to work in multi-cultural environment and respect other people values and opinions.
