About ISSI
The Islamic School of Staten Island is a faith-based classical Islamic school operating under the Islamic Center of Staten Island (ICSI). We form students in knowledge, virtue, and adab by uniting the classical liberal arts tradition with the rich intellectual heritage of Islam. Our students learn to pursue truth, recognize beauty and order in Allah’s creation, and express their understanding with clarity and confidence.
Overview
ISSI seeks a Mathematics Teacher responsible for the planning, instruction, assessment, and care of assigned students. In the classical tradition, mathematics is one of the liberal arts: a discipline that trains the mind in precision, logic, and proof, and reveals the order underlying creation. The ideal candidate builds strong computational fluency while guiding students toward conceptual understanding and logical argument, and helps them appreciate the contributions of Muslim scholars such as al-Khwarizmi, Omar Khayyam, and Ibn al-Haytham. The Mathematics Teacher is also expected to perform other duties assigned by the Principal that are consistent with the professional responsibilities of a teacher.

- Teach toward mastery, building strong foundations in arithmetic and algebra before advancing to geometry, proof, and higher mathematics.

- Respond promptly to student needs related to safety, well-being, and learning.
C. Assessment & Reporting
- Administer formative and summative assessments in line with the curriculum schedule.
- Grade student work, enter scores into the School-designated gradebook, and complete report cards by published deadlines.
- Identify students showing signs of academic difficulty within the first four (4) weeks of each marking period and coordinate intervention with the Principal and support staff.
- [Prepare students for NYS Regents exams and standardized tests such as the SAT and SHSAT.]
D. Parent & Community Engagement
- Communicate with parents regularly about student progress, behavior, and upcoming events through School-approved channels.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and other parent engagement events as scheduled.
- Respond to parent emails and messages within two (2) school days.
- Maintain a professional and constructive tone in all parent communications, consistent with ISSI’s values.

- Cover classes and supervise students when assigned by the HR Director.
