ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Unlocked Financial Futures is a federally funded 21st Century Community Learning Centers program at Imagine Lincoln Public Charter School. It is free to families and serves roughly 80 students in grades 5 through 8, Monday through Friday from 3:15 to 6:00 PM.

This is a specialist tutoring role. You are not teaching the program curriculum, supervising the room or planning lessons. You are here for your subject: one hour a day, working with students on the math they are already being set at school.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Run the daily math tutoring hour, 3:30–4:30 PM, with one assigned class — 5th grade, 6th grade, or the combined 7th/8th group
• Work one-on-one and in small groups on the homework assigned by the school's math department
• Shift toward skill gaps and test readiness as state testing approaches — fractions, ratios, percentages, expressions, and the fluency students are missing underneath them
• Run the hour in two halves: roughly 30 minutes pulling small groups, and 30 minutes one-to-one with the students who need it most
• Occasionally start at 3:15, during the Daily Reset, for a student who needs extra time — arranged in advance with the Program Director
• Keep a short record of who you worked with and on what, so the Program Director can see which students need more
• Tell the Program Director early when a student is well below grade level, so support is in place before a report card says it

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Experience tutoring or teaching mathematics to students in grades 5 through 8
• Confident with grade 5–8 standards, and comfortable with students working below grade level
• Patient with the student who did not understand it the first time, and the one who is too quiet to say so
• Reliable. Students and families plan around this program five days a week
• Must clear PGCPS fingerprinting and a background check before your first session

PREFERRED

• Experience tutoring reading and writing as well as math. This is a math position, but a tutor who can also help a student with a reading passage or a written response is especially valuable to us — please say so in your application
• Maryland teaching certification, or a degree in mathematics, education or a related field
• Experience with 21st CCLC, Title I, or another out-of-school-time program
• Experience with small-group intervention or test-preparation tutoring

WHAT TO EXPECT

• One hour a day, five days a week — a schedule that fits around a teaching job, graduate study or another role
• No lesson planning, no grading, no evening work. You tutor the hour and you are done
• Students are already in the building and in the room when you arrive. Snack is served during your hour
• A Student/Mentor Advisor is in the room with you every session
• One site. No travel between schools
