Math Tutor — Math Lab at Knox Esports

Location: Knox Esports, Knoxville, TN
Position Type: Part-Time
Minimum Availability: 8 hours per week

Knox Esports is seeking qualified, dependable Math Tutors to support Math Lab, our K–12 math tutoring program offered on-site at Knox Esports. Tutors will work with students in one-on-one and small-group settings, helping build math skills, confidence, and academic progress across a range of grade levels.

Successful candidates must be comfortable working with students across at least a five-year age/grade span within K–12 and must have the academic background and subject knowledge necessary to provide effective math instruction. Preferred candidates include current or retired math teachers, current college students majoring in mathematics or a STEM field, or graduates of mathematics or STEM collegiate programs.

Tutors will be able to declare their own weekly availability, with tutoring sessions booked directly by students or their families based on the tutor’s posted schedule. Each approved tutor will have a profile and availability listed on the Knox Esports / Math Lab website, allowing families to review tutor qualifications and book available one-on-one or group tutoring sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality math tutoring to K–12 students in one-on-one and small-group settings.
  • Explain mathematical concepts clearly and adapt instruction to different ages, skill levels, and learning styles.
  • Assist students with foundational math skills, current coursework, homework support, skill development, and academic enrichment as appropriate.
  • Prepare for scheduled tutoring sessions and provide a professional, supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain dependable weekly availability of at least 8 hours per week.
  • Keep availability information accurate so families can book tutoring sessions online.
  • Communicate professionally with students, parents, and Knox Esports / Math Lab staff.
  • Maintain appropriate conduct and professionalism when working with minors.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to tutor students across at least five years of the K–12 age/grade range.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics appropriate to the grade levels being taught.
  • One or more of the following:
  • Current math teacher
  • Retired math teacher
  • Current college student pursuing a mathematics or STEM degree
  • Graduate of a mathematics or STEM collegiate program
  • Ability to work a minimum of 8 hours per week.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, patient, and comfortable working with children and teenagers.
  • Ability to work on-site at Knox Esports.
  • Successful completion of a background check before working with students.

Scheduling

Math Lab is designed to provide tutors with scheduling flexibility. Tutors will submit the days and times they are available each week. Their availability will be published on the Math Lab website, and students or their families will select and book available tutoring sessions.

Tutoring opportunities may include:

  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Small-group tutoring
  • Elementary math
  • Middle school math
  • High school math
  • Algebra, geometry, and other subjects based on the tutor’s qualifications and experience

Tutor Profile

Each successful candidate will have a public tutor profile on the Knox Esports / Math Lab website. Profiles may include the tutor’s educational background, teaching or tutoring experience, subject specialties, grade levels served, short biography, photograph, and current booking availability.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal Math Lab tutor combines strong mathematical knowledge with the ability to make math understandable, approachable, and engaging for students. We are looking for tutors who enjoy helping young people learn and who can create a positive experience for both students and their families.

A useful next step would be to create a shorter Indeed/LinkedIn job-posting version plus a standardized tutor profile template for the Math Lab website.
