SPS Tutor is seeking a knowledgeable, reliable, and engaging Math Tutor to join our growing team in Tampa, Florida.

This is a hybrid tutoring position, and applicants must be comfortable providing instruction both virtually from home and in person with students at our Tampa location. The ability and willingness to work in both settings is a requirement of the position.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working one-on-one with students and can confidently support students across high school mathematics.

In-Person Location: 900 North Ashley Dr, Tampa, FL 33602

Required Availability

The selected tutor must be comfortable and available to work in both instructional settings:

• Provide tutoring virtually from home using Zoom and other digital instructional tools
• Provide tutoring in person at our Tampa location
• Be available to work in person at least 1 day per week
• Ideally be available for 2–3 days per week in person as student demand increases
• Maintain reliable availability for recurring student appointments
• Be comfortable transitioning between virtual and in-person instruction as student schedules require

This is not a fully remote position. Applicants must be willing and able to provide both virtual and in-person tutoring.

Minimum Math Qualifications

Applicants must be able to confidently and independently tutor, at minimum:

• Algebra 1
• Geometry
• Algebra 2

Candidates who can tutor additional subjects are encouraged to apply, including:

• Pre-Algebra
• Precalculus
• Trigonometry
• Statistics
• College Algebra
• SAT Math
• ACT Math
• Advanced Mathematics

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality one-on-one mathematics instruction
• Identify student strengths, weaknesses, and prerequisite skill gaps
• Develop instruction around each student's individual academic needs
• Reinforce classroom concepts and prepare students for assessments
• Help students develop problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills
• Provide homework and test preparation support
• Track student progress and document session information
• Communicate professionally with parents and the SPS Tutor team
• Utilize Zoom and digital instructional tools for virtual sessions
• Provide engaging and supportive instruction during in-person sessions
• Follow SPS Tutor curriculum, policies, and documentation procedures
• Adapt instructional strategies based on individual student needs

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is:

• Strong in mathematics and able to clearly explain mathematical concepts
• Patient, encouraging, and comfortable working with students of different ability levels
• Reliable, professional, and punctual
• Comfortable teaching both virtually and in person
• Confident using technology and virtual teaching platforms
• Comfortable working independently during virtual sessions
• Comfortable providing face-to-face instruction in a professional office setting
• Willing and able to travel to our Tampa location for scheduled in-person sessions
• Available for consistent recurring student appointments
• Able to build positive relationships with students and families

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, STEM, Education, or a related field
• Florida teaching certification
• Previous classroom teaching experience
• Previous tutoring experience
• Experience working with middle or high school students
• SAT/ACT tutoring experience
• Experience working with students with learning differences or neurodivergent learners

Teaching certification is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
