Job Duties

The successful applicant will perform a variety of meat processing and abattoir duties, including:

• Receive and handle livestock in accordance with animal welfare standards.
• Assist with humane slaughter of cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry following provincial regulations and company procedures.
• Dress carcasses using knives and meat processing equipment.
• Split, trim, wash, and prepare carcasses for chilling.
• Move carcasses and meat products throughout the processing facility using rails and material handling equipment.
• Perform primary fabrication of beef, pork, lamb, and poultry.
• Trim meat to customer and company specifications.
• Package, label, and prepare meat products for storage and distribution.
• Operate meat processing equipment, including saws, grinders, vacuum packaging machines, and other processing equipment.
• Clean and sanitize equipment, tools, and processing areas in accordance with sanitation and food safety procedures.
• Follow HACCP, sanitation, occupational health and safety, and biosecurity protocols.
• Inspect products for quality and report any abnormalities to supervisors.
• Assist with receiving supplies and maintaining inventory.
• Perform general plant maintenance and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a meat processing plant, butcher shop, or abattoir is considered an asset but is not required.
• Experience using knives safely is an asset.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physically capable of standing for extended periods, performing repetitive tasks, and lifting up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
• Comfortable working in refrigerated environments.

Working Conditions

This position involves physically demanding work in a meat processing facility. Employees will work in refrigerated production areas and may be exposed to noise, moisture, livestock, and raw meat products. Appropriate personal protective equipment and training will be provided.

Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends depending on production requirements.
