Mechanic

The Town’s Human Resources Office, on behalf of the Municipal Maintenance Department, is accepting applications for the full-time position of Mechanic. This is a forty (40) hour a week union position with on-call, overtime opportunities and a very generous benefits package, in accordance with the current union contract, including pension plans, paid time off, health/dental insurance (Town pays 68% of the health premium and 75% of the dental premium), tool/boot allowances, certificate stipends, EAP, Wellness Programs, etc. Additionally, there is potential for advancement and growth. On the job training for licenses and additional certifications is available.

Education and Experience: Graduate of a trade school in automotive or other mechanical fields. Must have at least five years’ experience in automobile, light and heavy truck repair. Heavy equipment repair is also desirable. Knowledge of diesel and gas engines. Use of welding equipment and welding ability is necessary. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License. Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a Class B Driver’s License with applicable endorsements and a hydraulic license. Subject to CORI/SORI check, RMV check, pre-employment physical and drug test.

Duties: Repairs and maintains a variety of vehicles (including buses), machines and various equipment. May operate the department’s equipment, including but not limited to grader, sweeper, light and heavy trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, etc. as required; may operate trucks for snowplowing and sanding; may perform a variety of unskilled and skilled manual laboring tasks as required.
