Mechanic

Reports to: Quality Control Manager/CDL Driver Supervisor

Salary Range: $22 - $35/hour

Full Time

Hourly, Non-exempt

Purpose

Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul heavy equipment, trailers, and company vehicles. Keep track of fleet, repairs needed and completed, and any red tags.

Education and Experience

• Postsecondary non-degree award
• Two years or more of mechanical on-the-job training

General Qualifications

Required:

• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be between 21 - 75 years of age (Over 70 requires an acceptable annual letter of health from a registered doctor or their representative)
• Must download the Telecom application on a smartphone and complete daily electronic DVIR
• May not have more than five (5) Minor Violations in the past thirty-six (36) months
• May not have more than one (1) at-fault accident in the past thirty-six (36) months

Other:

• High school diploma or GED
• Great people skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills
• Must have reliable transportation to work
• Basic knowledge of the construction industry
• Ability to determine the right kind of tool and equipment needed to do a job
• Commitment to performing quality work while putting safety first
• Possess a strong sense of personal responsibility and the ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions
• Must use a cell phone device to clock in and out for shifts and lunch

Working Conditions

This position could require evenings, nights, and some weekends. This position will be performed mainly outdoors and sometimes in inclement weather.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, stand, and kneel for long periods, and be physically active

Tasks

• Perform maintenance and repair on equipment and vehicles
• Identify problems with vehicles using the diagnostic equipment
• Explain equipment and vehicle repairs and issues
• Plan repair procedures
• Perform basic auto care and maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid level checks, and tire rotation.
• Repair and replace brake pads, wheel barrings, sensors, and other parts
• Perform routine maintenance and general mechanic work on vehicles
• Prepared to get additional certification as required
• Willingness to learn with hands-on training
• Help keep the repair shop clean and organized
• Keep a professional appearance
• Keep equipment available by inspecting and testing vehicles, and completing preventative maintenance.
• Maintaining vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing engine failures, repairing mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, replacing parts and components and body damage
• Testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards comply with state vehicle requirements.
• Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting control and systems
• Maintain maintenance logs and record details of repairs made and parts used.
• Reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation, and making adjustments as necessary.
• Inspect and listen to equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with operators to locate and diagnose malfunctions.
• Dismantle defective machines for repair using personal hand tools
• Test and diagnose electrical components and wiring
• Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools, welding equipment, grinders, or saws
• Clean and lubricate parts
• Tune or overhaul engines

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $35.00 per hour
