Mechanic (solar technician)

Core Responsibilities

• System Assembly & Installation: Lay out, assemble, and attach solar panels, racking systems, structural framing, and mounting hardware to rooftops or ground-mounted fixtures. [1, 2]
• Site Preparation: Measure, square, and mathematically determine the correct positioning and structural layouts for solar arrays according to blueprints and design specs. [1, 2]
• Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Perform routine physical inspections to check for mechanical wear, structural degradation, panel damage, or shifting components. [1]
• System Testing & Commissioning: Help activate systems, measure power outputs, and use specialized diagnostics to test structural integrity and performance limits. [1]
• Weatherproofing & Grounding: Apply sealants and flashing to protect building surfaces from leaks, and install structural grounding mechanisms to safely divert electrical surges. [1, 2]

Required Technical Skills

• Mechanical Aptitude: High proficiency with basic hand and power tools, torque wrenches, and drilling equipment. [1, 2]
• Blueprint Literacy: The ability to accurately read and interpret technical diagrams, mechanical drawings, and construction schematics. [1, 2]
• Basic Electrical Knowledge: An understanding of AC/DC wiring, inverters, and electrical grids to safely assist electricians with system integration. [1, 2]
