About the role:

We’re looking for a Mechanic Team Leader to take charge of our frontline workshop operations, based in Queenstown. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll guide a team of mechanics, drive productivity, and ensure every vehicle leaves the workshop performing at its best. Your mission: exceed customer expectations while hitting quality, efficiency, and strategic targets.

This position is full-time with guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week.  Remuneration will be commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience, and will fall within the range of $34 to $45 per hour.

What we’re looking for:

We’re seeking someone who brings both technical expertise and leadership skills to the table:

• A recognised New Zealand trade qualification (Light or Heavy Automotive Engineering Level 4 or international equivalent).
• At least a restricted driver’s licence.
• 3 to 5 years of automotive industry experience is preferred.
• Previous team leader or supervisory experience in busy workshop environments is essential.
• Strong knowledge of automotive mechanics, diagnostics, and workshop systems.
• Proven ability to train, mentor, and motivate a diverse team.
• Commitment to health & safety standards and compliance.
• Reliable under pressure, with excellent communication and organisational skills.

What you’ll do:

As Mechanic Team Leader, you’ll:

• Lead daily workshop operations, organising workflow and fostering a positive team environment.
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles to thl standards.
• Decide on repair vs. replacement based on inspections.
• Confirm repairs through test drives, adjustments, and quality checks.
• Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and brand requirements.
• Support recruitment, rostering, and performance management.
• Train and guide mechanics, resolving operational challenges.
• Use Microsoft Asset Manager to track workflows, parts, and labour.
• Champion health and safety practices across the workshop.
