What they need

About GTEC

GTEC is an Australian-owned mining solutions company delivering high-performance products through strategic manufacturing partnerships. We design and supply excavator buckets, dump bodies, ground engaging tools (GET), undercarriage components and site lighting — backed by an in-house QA/QC division that audits both imported and locally manufactured machines to AS, ISO and site-specific requirements. Our clients expect equipment that is competitively priced, fully documented and audit-ready on day one. That is where you come in.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development Carry out mechanical and structural design of mobile mining equipment and attachments — excavator buckets, dump bodies, GET systems, lighting towers and undercarriage components — covering layout, material and wear-package selection, and payload/mass optimisation.
  • Drawing & Document Review Review and approve manufacturing and fabrication drawings, weld details, tolerances and bills of materials for buildability, dimensional accuracy and compliance. Issue clear redline mark-ups and close out technical queries with our manufacturing partners.
  • Safety & Compliance Assessment Assess designs against the applicable Australian compliance framework — including the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 (WA), the AS 4024 series (Safety of Machinery) and AS/NZS ISO 31000 (Risk Management) — and prepare risk assessments, conformity documentation and audit-ready technical files.
  • Mobile Equipment Support Apply hands-on knowledge of mobile mining plant — excavators, dozers, loaders, haul trucks and drill rigs — to design reviews, field inspections, site acceptance and safe commissioning. Identify hazards across guarding, access and egress, lighting and visibility, braking systems, operator protection (ROPS/FOPS) and isolation/lock-out.
  • Audits & Inspections Conduct in-depth audits of both imported and domestically produced machines, carry out field inspections and documentation reviews, and issue clear reports that procurement teams and site managers can use to close out approvals.
  • Technical Liaison & Improvement Work with suppliers, clients and our internal procurement and sales teams to resolve technical issues, feed field data and client feedback back into design, and support prototype evaluation and continuous product improvement.

About You — Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Structural Engineering (or equivalent). Washington Accord recognised / Engineers Australia eligibility is highly regarded.
  • 3+ years’ experience in mining equipment engineering, heavy mobile plant, or a related heavy-industry design role.
  • Demonstrated experience with mobile mining equipment — excavators, dozers, loaders, haul trucks and drill rigs — across design, maintenance or modification.
  • Proven ability to review and redline engineering drawings and 3D models; proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor or similar.
  • Solid design grounding: structural / mechanical design, basic FEA, material and wear selection, and design for manufacture and assembly.
  • Working knowledge of the Australian mining compliance landscape — WHS requirements, relevant AS/NZS standards, and site acceptance processes.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills; confident dealing with clients, suppliers and site personnel.
  • English–Mandarin bilingual capability is a strong advantage, given our overseas manufacturing partners.
  • Full Australian working rights, a current WA C Class driver’s licence, and willingness to travel to mine sites as required.

What We Offer

  • A hands-on role with real ownership — you’ll follow your designs from concept through to inspection and commissioning on site.
  • Competitive salary plus superannuation, reviewed annually.
  • Support toward professional registration (Engineers Australia / CPEng pathway) and exposure to international manufacturing.
  • A small, senior and lean team — decisions get made quickly, and your input is heard.
