What they need

Mechanical Assembly Technician

Company: JIREH METAL PRODUCTS
Location: Grandville, MI
Reports To: Operations Manager
Works With: Production, Quality, Material Handling, Shipping/Receiving

Your day at a glance

You start your shift by reviewing work instructions, blueprints, and schematics for the jobs in the queue. You gather the right hand and power tools, set up your work area, and begin assembling components into finished products. Throughout the day, you team up with Production to hit the schedule, coordinate with Material Handling for parts, connect with Quality to verify conformance, and time builds so they’re ready for Shipping/Receiving.

Quality moments are built into your routine—you inspect what you assemble, catch issues early, and communicate defects or equipment concerns promptly. Safety is second nature: you follow all company protocols, wear required PPE, and keep your station clean and organized from start to finish.

Purpose of the role

  • Assemble components and complete products to spec, following work instructions, blueprints, or schematics while meeting production, quality, and safety expectations.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance and immediately flag defects or production issues.
  • Operate required hand tools, power tools, and production equipment safely and correctly.
  • Keep assembly as your primary focus while flexing to value-added work—boxing, secondary operations, packaging, and related manufacturing support—based on production needs.

  • Troubleshoot basic issues and report defects, equipment concerns, and production problems promptly.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to ensure consistent results.

Safety & Workplace Organization

  • Adhere to all safety rules, company policies, and operating procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area throughout the shift.

Department & Facility Support

  • Assist with boxing, secondary operations, packaging, and other production tasks as needed.
  • Cross-train across multiple value-added activities while keeping assembly as the primary responsibility.

Education & experience

  • Prior assembly, manufacturing, or general labor experience preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable using basic hand and power tools.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions with strong attention to detail and quality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical requirements

  • Stand for extended periods; frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive assembly motions.
  • Lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds independently.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, and production equipment for the full workday.

  • Minimal travel required.

Language

  • Must be able to read and write in English.

Personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Wear additional PPE as required by the task or work area.

Work environment

  • Manufacturing setting with continuous noise and moving equipment.
  • Exposure to dust, grease, moisture, and varying temperatures.
  • Potential exposure to manufacturing hazards—strict safety compliance required.
  • Intermittent exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

How success is measured

  • Correct, safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and required equipment.
  • Assembly accuracy and adherence to work instructions, blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Quality of finished work and timely identification/reporting of defects or production issues.
  • Meeting production targets while upholding safety and quality.
  • Clean, organized work area.
  • Dependability, teamwork, and responsiveness to shifting priorities.
  • Effective support of boxing, secondary operations, packaging, and other assigned tasks.
