Mechanical Assembly Technician

Northern Manufacturing is a custom metal fabrication company located in Oak Harbor, Ohio. We manufacture complex, custom-fabricated products for customers across a variety of industries. We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our team and perform hands-on mechanical assembly work on custom customer projects.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background who can work from prints, assemble and install a variety of mechanical components, troubleshoot problems, and take ownership of their work from start to finish.

What You'll Do

• Perform mechanical assembly work on a variety of custom customer projects.
• Assemble and install mechanical components and systems, which may include gearboxes, motors, bearings, shafts, drives, drums, pneumatic or hydraulic components, and other customer-specific equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, and other production documentation to understand assembly requirements and proper component installation.
• Use hand and power tools to fit, assemble, and install mechanical components.
• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical fit, alignment, installation, and assembly issues, involving the Lead, Supervisor, Engineering, Quality, or other resources when needed.
• Ensure components are assembled and installed correctly according to prints, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Identify missing parts, incorrect components, print discrepancies, or other issues that may prevent work from being completed as planned.
• Safely operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment as needed to move and position parts and assemblies.
• Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Work collaboratively with other team members and departments to complete customer projects.

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of mechanical assembly, machine building, industrial equipment assembly, industrial maintenance, or similar hands-on mechanical experience, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience using hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, and other production documentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and assembly problems.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when additional technical support is needed.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Forklift and crane experience preferred.

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
