What they need

About KIM Manufacturing

KIM Manufacturing is a growing, family-owned manufacturing company serving the battery and industrial power markets. We design and manufacture battery racks, containment systems, and other custom sheet-metal products. We are investing in new equipment, software, automation, and technology and are looking for an engineer who can help us take the business to the next level.

The Role

We are looking for a practical Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Engineer who understands that a good design is one that can actually be built efficiently, consistently, and profitably. The ideal candidate is strong in SolidWorks and sheet-metal design, comfortable on a manufacturing floor, and capable of taking projects from concept through production with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

· Design sheet-metal products, assemblies, fixtures, and components in SolidWorks.

· Review customer drawings and determine whether KIM can manufacture the product using our existing equipment and processes.

· Verify dimensions, hole patterns, clearances, tolerances, bend locations, fasteners, and assembly requirements.

· Design around KIM's lasers, press brakes, welding equipment, fixtures, and other manufacturing capabilities.

· Create production-ready engineering drawings and documentation.

· Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).

· Manage engineering revisions and ensure drawings, BOMs, and production documentation remain synchronized.

· Maintain traceable revision histories and documentation of engineering changes.

· Recommend and implement approved BOM and engineering changes within KIM's ERP/MRP system.

· Troubleshoot manufacturing and fitment issues directly with production employees.

· Work closely with the shop floor to improve manufacturability, quality, and efficiency.

· Own projects from concept through design, documentation, production, and customer delivery.

· Identify opportunities to reduce material, labor, fabrication, and assembly costs.

· Develop and improve KIM's engineering documentation and revision-control processes.

AI & Emerging Technology

KIM is actively exploring AI and emerging technology in engineering and manufacturing. We want someone who is curious about using AI-assisted tools to improve the way we design, document, quote, manufacture, and solve problems. You do not need prior AI expertise, but you should be excited to experiment with tools that can improve CAD/design workflows, drafting, documentation, design optimization, BOM creation, engineering research, and troubleshooting.

Required Qualifications

· 4+ years of relevant engineering, mechanical design, drafting, or manufacturing experience.

· Strong SolidWorks skills.

· Demonstrated sheet-metal design experience.

· Practical understanding of sheet-metal fabrication and manufacturing.

· Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings.

· Strong manufacturability judgment and attention to detail.

· Experience creating production drawings and engineering documentation.

· Highly organized and capable of independently owning projects.

· Willingness to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor.

Strongly Preferred

· Experience with laser cutting, press brakes, welding, and general sheet-metal fabrication.

· Experience designing racks, enclosures, frames, cabinets, or fabricated assemblies.

· Experience creating and maintaining BOMs and engineering change/revision control.

· Experience with an ERP/MRP system.

· Basic electrical knowledge, particularly batteries, cabling, breakers, bus bars, voltage/current, and electrical component integration.

· Experience with mechanical/electrical integration.

You do not need to be an electrical engineer. The primary requirement is strong mechanical and sheet-metal design experience; electrical knowledge is a plus.

The Person We're Looking For

· Practical and hands-on.

· Self-directed and able to run with projects without constant supervision.

· Detail-oriented and highly organized.

· Hardworking and accountable.

· Comfortable communicating directly with management and production employees.

· Curious about technology and willing to experiment with better ways of doing things.

· Focused on building products that work in the real world—not just producing drawings.

What KIM Offers

· Significant autonomy and ownership over engineering projects.

· Direct access to company management and the ability to see ideas implemented quickly.

· A growing company with opportunities for increased responsibility and meaningful long-term upside for a high performer.

· Your own office.

· Flexible working hours with a typical 9–5 schedule and meaningful flexibility.

· 3 weeks of vacation.

· 401(k) with defined contribution.

· Discretionary, performance-based year-end bonus based on individual contribution and company performance.

· Real end-to-end manufacturing experience: SolidWorks → drawings → BOM → laser → press brake → welding → assembly → customer.

We value flexibility, but we also expect people to step up when important projects, customer needs, or manufacturing issues require extra effort.

Compensation

$90,000–$110,000 base salary, depending on experience and qualifications, plus a discretionary performance-based year-end bonus. The role offers long-term opportunity for increased responsibility and upside based on performance.

Location

Downingtown, Pennsylvania. This is an on-site position.

How to Apply

Please submit a resume along with a brief description of your experience with SolidWorks, sheet-metal design, manufacturing, and engineering documentation. Examples of relevant projects or products you have designed are welcome.
