MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

About the role

A Mechanical Design Engineer is expected to transform product or equipment requirements into practical, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective mechanical designs, while taking ownership of the design from concept through production and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, fixtures, machines, and equipment.
• Create and maintain 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
• Select appropriate materials, components, manufacturing processes, and standard parts.
• Perform basic engineering calculations such as stress, load, tolerance, fit, thermal considerations, and mechanism analysis.
• Work closely with manufacturing, production, quality, electrical, automation, and suppliers.
• Conduct design verification, prototype testing, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
• Investigate mechanical failures and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Ensure designs meet cost, quality, safety, reliability, and delivery requirements.
• Maintain engineering standards and ensure compliance with applicable specifications and regulations.

About you

• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals.
• Proficient in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or AutoCAD.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal, welding, and fabrication.
• Understanding of material selection, tolerances, fits, bearings, fasteners, gears, motors, and other mechanical components.
• Ability to identify design risks before they become production problems.
• Ability to analyse problems systematically rather than relying on trial and error.
• Ability to find practical and cost-effective solutions.
• Ability to use engineering data and testing to validate decisions.
• Ability to complete designs according to project schedules and communicate clearly with different departments.
• Ability to manage engineering changes and documentation properly.
