Mechanical Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Vision System Design

• Design, model, and create detailed 2D/3D CAD drawings (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for mechanical parts, assemblies, and jigs essential for machine vision applications.
• Specialize in designing precision mounting solutions for high-resolution cameras, lenses, and specialized lighting systems to ensure micro-level stability and alignment.
• Develop custom mechanical enclosures and brackets to protect sensitive optical components in harsh industrial environments (e.g., dust, vibration, heat).
• Work closely with the electrical and vision engineers to integrate optical, illumination, and electronic components seamlessly into the final system housing.
• Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication) based on cost, durability, and thermal requirements.

2. Prototyping and Validation

• Build, test, and validate mechanical prototypes to verify performance against design specifications, focusing on optical axis stability and thermal management.
• Conduct tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and risk assessments to ensure the mechanical design integrity and long-term reliability.
• Generate Bills of Materials (BOM) and collaborate with procurement teams and external suppliers to manage fabrication and sourcing of custom parts.

3. Documentation and Support

• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including assembly drawings, revision control records, and installation manuals.
• Provide technical support to the on-site installation and field service teams to address mechanical assembly issues or design flaws encountered during deployment.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.

• Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience in mechanical design, preferably involving optical systems, sensor integration, or high-precision industrial equipment.

• Technical Proficiency:

  • Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing for tight tolerances and precision alignment mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with various optical components (lenses, mirrors, filters) and industrial illumination types (LEDs, strobes).
  • Strong knowledge of materials science, surface finishing, and standard manufacturing techniques.
