An opportunity to develop your engineering career
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity to broaden your technical experience, deepen your engineering knowledge and take on greater responsibility?
G3 Systems is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing WTB delivery team at Osprey Quay, Portland.
This is much more than a CAD-focused role. You will have the opportunity to work across the full engineering lifecycle – from concept, 3D modelling and analysis through to manufacturing, integration, installation and delivery.
Working alongside experienced senior engineers and project managers, you will be exposed to a broad range of engineering challenges, giving you the opportunity to build depth in your existing skills while developing new areas of technical expertise.
About G3 Systems
G3 Systems is an international engineering and construction business delivering complex solutions in challenging environments.
We Design. Deliver. Operate. Support.
Our people are central to what we do, and we actively encourage individuals to develop their skills, expand their experience and take on new challenges as our business and projects evolve.
The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Design Engineer within the WTB delivery team, you will report to the WTB Project Manager and work closely with the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
You will become involved in a diverse range of engineering activities, working collaboratively with design, project, production and commercial teams.
The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop a broader understanding of how engineered products and systems move from design through to manufacture and integration, rather than concentrating on one stage of the process.
You will have the opportunity to develop experience in:
- Mechanical design and 3D modelling.
- Engineering analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Integration of multiple services and systems.
- Manufacturing and assembly considerations.
- Bills of Materials and configuration.
- Supplier and manufacturer engagement.
- Technical specifications and Statements of Work.
- Tendering, estimating and budgeting.
- Design reviews and technical presentations.
- Production, integration and installation support.
- Working within a structured project delivery environment.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing 3D models using Autodesk Inventor.
- Producing 2D engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Undertaking FEA using Autodesk Inventor.
- Producing and reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Supporting the integration of multiple services and systems within engineered solutions.
- Producing Bills of Materials (BoMs).
- Preparing manufacturing, integration and installation packages.
- Providing technical support during manufacturing, production and integration.
- Preparing technical reports, proposals, Statements of Work and specifications.
- Supporting technical tenders and project budgets.
- Obtaining quotations for specialist equipment and services.
- Liaising with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Leading and participating in internal and external design reviews.
- Working closely with design engineers and project managers to deliver practical and effective engineering solutions.
Develop Your Technical Experience
The WTB programme provides an excellent environment for an engineer who wants to expand the breadth and depth of their engineering experience.
You will be encouraged to learn from experienced engineers and become involved in areas beyond your existing core experience. Whether that means developing your capability in FEA, gaining greater exposure to manufacturing and integration, understanding supplier management or becoming more involved in technical project delivery, the role provides scope to grow as an engineer while contributing to a major programme.
You won't simply be producing designs and handing them over. You'll have the opportunity to see how your engineering decisions translate into real-world manufacture, integration and delivery.
For the right person, this could be an excellent next step towards becoming a well-rounded Mechanical Engineer with a much broader technical and project skillset.
About You
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who is technically curious, enjoys solving engineering problems and is keen to continue developing their career.
You will ideally have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 3 years' post-qualification experience within a mechanical design environment.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- The ability to undertake engineering calculations.
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans and technical details.
- A strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Working knowledge of relevant BS/ISO Standards.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Strong communication and collaborative working skills.
- A willingness to learn and develop beyond your existing technical experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role.
Experience of integrating multiple services and systems within containerised or modular builds would be advantageous, but is not essential.
UK & European Travel
The role is Dorset based, yet may involve UK and overseas travel, predominantly within Europe.
This may include visits to customers, Tier 1 suppliers and manufacturers, as well as supporting design reviews, manufacturing, integration and installation activities.
You will therefore need to be willing and able to travel when required.
Take the Next Step
If you're looking for a role where you can build on what you already know, develop new technical capabilities and gain valuable experience across the wider engineering lifecycle, this could be an ideal opportunity.
Join G3 Systems and become part of a growing engineering team where your knowledge, ideas and development are valued – and where there is genuine scope to grow your experience and take your engineering career to the next level.
What you’ll get in return
- Competitive salary starting at £47.5k per annum, with potential to offer more for candidates with relevant experience
- 25 days annual leave
- Flexible 37.5-hour working week
- Single Person Private Medical Insurance including Dental Cover provided by BUPA
- Life cover (3.5x salary)
- Defined Pension scheme
- Salary sacrifice schemes (including eBike and electric vehicles)
- Access to wellbeing platforms
Location & Working Pattern
This role can consider a hybrid basis, with time split between home working and our Portland, Dorset office at Osprey Quay.
