Mechanical Design Engineer

Be the engineer who shapes how a premium sports brand's products get made. You'll take concepts from the industrial designer to the factory in China, across precision metal and connected products, and bring the options, change tracking, and design rationale the process needs. Your work goes straight to the Chief Product Officer.

You'll be joining a long-established premium sports brand whose precision metal products are used by professionals worldwide, including world champions, and which runs its own factory in China. It's an established business selling across the UK, Europe, North America and Japan. It's now building connected products alongside the core range, with real investment behind the product roadmap.

The role

Day to day you'll turn industrial design concepts into manufacture-ready engineering packages in Siemens NX, defining materials, processes and tolerances before anything reaches the supply chain. On connected products you'll own the housing around the electronics, from PCB mounting and airflow to battery and wiring routing. You'll lead the DFM conversation with the development team and manufacturing partners in China, run the stress, thermal and tolerance calculations, and be hands-on at prototype builds rather than reviewing drawings from a desk.

This suits a product design engineer who wants to set how products get developed, not just deliver CAD against someone else's brief. Precision metal and plastics in one job is rare, and here the engineering voice in the UK is yours.

What you'll need

• Proven experience taking physical consumer products from concept through tooling into production, working directly with an offshore manufacturer or development team.
• Strong DFM on injection moulded plastic parts, including the confidence to push back on a design that won't tool or cost correctly.
• Experience on products with integrated electronics, enough to know what a PCB, battery and wiring need from a housing.
• A clear way of working you can describe, covering how you track changes, present options to stakeholders and document a design decision.

What it isn't

This isn't a big engineering department with a senior engineer at the next desk. The UK team is small, and development happens in China, so you'll often be the only person asking the question. It's also on site in Essex. Five days is the current policy, and it's under review, so if that commute isn't one you'd make every week, it's better to say so early. If you like owning the engineering and setting how it's done, that's the point.
