Mechanical Design Engineer – SolidWorks

About the role

We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks skills to design machines, tools and mechanical parts. You'll turn ideas and technical requirements into practical designs ready for manufacturing and assembly.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop machines, tooling, fixtures and mechanical components using SolidWorks
• Create 3D models, assemblies, detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials
• Select suitable materials, components and manufacturing methods
• Work with production teams and suppliers to ensure designs can be manufactured and assembled efficiently
• Support prototyping, testing and troubleshooting
• Improve existing designs for performance, reliability, cost and ease of maintenance
• Maintain accurate drawings, revisions and technical documentation

About you

• A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, including part modelling, assemblies and technical drawings
• Experience designing machines, tools or mechanical parts
• Understanding of machining, fabrication, tolerances and mechanical assembly
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a practical approach to design
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with workshop and engineering teams
• Experience with sheet metal, weldments, GD&T, pneumatics or automation would be an advantage
