Mechanical Draftsman

Job Purpose

The Mechanical Draftsman is responsible for preparing, developing, and maintaining accurate mechanical drawings and technical documentation in accordance with project specifications, engineering standards, and approved designs. The role involves coordinating with engineers, site teams, and other disciplines to ensure drawings are accurate, practical, and suitable for construction and installation.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, sections, elevations, and installation drawings using AutoCAD and other relevant drafting software.
• Develop shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and as-built drawings based on approved engineering designs and site requirements.
• Interpret mechanical engineering drawings, specifications, design calculations, and technical documents.
• Prepare drawings for mechanical systems, equipment, piping, ducting, supports, and related installations as required by the project.
• Coordinate mechanical drawings with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other discipline drawings to identify and resolve conflicts.
• Incorporate comments and revisions from engineers, consultants, and project management into drawings accurately and promptly.
• Conduct regular site visits to verify actual site conditions, dimensions, and installation requirements and update drawings accordingly.
• Ensure all drawings comply with approved project specifications, applicable standards, codes, and company procedures.
• Maintain proper control and filing of drawings, revisions, technical documents, and related drafting records.
• Prepare drawing submissions for consultant/client review and incorporate approved comments and revisions.
• Assist engineers and site teams by providing accurate technical drawings and details required for construction and installation activities.
• Coordinate with the procurement and site teams to ensure drawings reflect the required equipment, materials, and installation arrangements.
• Prepare accurate as-built drawings based on completed site installations and approved modifications.
• Maintain drawing registers and ensure that the latest approved drawings are issued to the relevant project teams.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Draftsman, preferably in construction or MEP projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant drafting software.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, piping layouts, equipment, supports, and installation practices.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Good understanding of construction drawings, shop drawings, and as-built documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good coordination and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
• UAE/GCC construction experience will be an advantage.
