What they need

1. Essential Technical Qualifications & Practical Experience (4x4 & Engine Conversions Focus)

  • Welding Proficiency: Proven MIG welding, with specific experience in light-gauge and thick structural mild steel (chassis mounts, bumper bars).
  • Engine Conversion & Bay Fabrication: Practical experience fabricating bespoke engine/gearbox mounts, crossmembers, custom radiator/intercooler setups, oil pan modifications, and clearance solutions for popular conversion platforms (e.g., BMW M57, OM606, B58, V8 swaps).
  • Driveable Chassis & Suspension Metalwork: Understanding of 4x4 chassis geometry, axle tube modifications, link arm fabrication, winch mounts, and heavy-duty armor (rock sliders, underbody protection).
  • Drawing & Template Literacy: Ability to work on hand-sketches, or create precise 1:1 cardboard/wood mock-ups directly inside complex engine bays and wheel wells.

2. Practical & Operational Skills (4x4 & Engine Conversions Focus)

  • In-Bay Prototyping & Dry-Fitting: Mocking up tight engine conversions directly on customer vehicles, test-fitting plumbing/wiring clearance, and re-routing components without compromising factory structural points.
  • Pipe & Exhaust Fabrication: Ability to fabricate custom mandrel-bent exhaust systems, downpipes, and intake/charge piping with tight leak-free TIG seams and precise O2/sensor boss placement.
  • Component Finishing & Prep Work: Surface preparation for powder coating/painting, precision linishing on exposed welds, weld-seam sealing, and anti-corrosion prep for off-road exposure.
  • Machinery & Jig Setup: Setting up custom welding jigs for repeatable component manufacturing (e.g., production run adapter brackets, fuel tanks, or suspension arms).
  • Tool & Workshop Care: Regular maintenance of specialised tools including tig torches, plasma cutters, notchers, benders, and vehicle lifts.
