Mechanical Engineer – Specifications

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in building construction, MEP systems, and technical documentation. The selected candidate will primarily support the preparation, review, and coordination of mechanical technical specifications for building projects.

Previous specification-writing experience is preferred; however, engineers with strong technical, site, and documentation experience who demonstrate the ability to develop into a specification-writing role will also be considered.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in building construction, engineering consultancy, or contracting projects.
• Practical site experience is required, with good understanding of installation methods, construction activities, testing, commissioning, and site coordination.
• Experience in specification writing and the UAE/GCC construction industry is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, and associated MEP systems.
• Good understanding of construction specifications, drawings, schedules, material submittals, and technical datasheets.
• Ability to read and interpret design and construction drawings and translate design intent into clear technical requirements.
• Experience in reviewing shop drawings, material submittals, technical proposals, and manufacturers’ literature.
• Familiarity with UAE regulations, authority requirements, and applicable international codes and standards.
• Strong technical writing, research, analytical, and coordination skills.
• Ability to identify discrepancies between drawings, specifications, schedules, and other project documents.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD and Revit MEP knowledge is an advantage.
• Knowledge of CSI MasterFormat or other specification systems is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and update mechanical technical specifications for building projects.
• Review drawings, schedules, Basis of Design, and other project documents to determine specification requirements.
• Develop specification requirements for HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, mechanical equipment, materials, installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Coordinate specifications with Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, Structural, and other disciplines.
• Identify missing information, discrepancies, and conflicts between drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documents.
• Prepare technical queries and clarifications where required.
• Research materials, products, systems, manufacturers, codes, and applicable standards.
• Review product data and manufacturers’ technical literature for specification development.
• Ensure specifications are coordinated with project drawings, schedules, material selections, and contract requirements.
• Review and incorporate comments received from clients, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and UAE authority regulations.
