As a vertically integrated manufacturer, Blac-Rac combines engineering, CNC machining, fabrication, assembly, and production under one roof. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking products and ideas from design through production, with responsibility for mechanical design, product improvements, CNC and manufacturing support, tooling, fixtures, and process improvements.
What You’ll Do:
- Support new product development and product improvements from concept and design through production launch.
- Create and update engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and related design documentation.
- Design and modify mechanical parts, assemblies, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing aids using CAD software.
- Partner closely with Production and Manufacturing to improve design for manufacturability, assembly, quality, and cost.
- Support CNC machining operations, including programming, tooling selection, fixture design, and process/setup optimization.
- Troubleshoot product, production, and machining issues and implement sustainable solutions.
- Develop manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
- Improve cycle times, quality, throughput, repeatability, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Create and maintain work instructions, processes, and engineering/manufacturing documentation.
- Evaluate opportunities for product improvements, automation, and new manufacturing technologies.
- Support ISO 9001 and quality initiatives.
- Provide hands-on technical support to production team members.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Mechanical design experience with a strong understanding of product design, materials, manufacturing methods, and design for manufacturability.
- Proficiency with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks/Fusion 360 or similar 3D modeling software.
- Ability to create, read, and understand engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting products from design through manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with 3-axis CAM programming is preferred.
- Experience with manufacturing process improvement and continuous improvement.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across Engineering and Production.
What Will Help You Succeed
- Strong mechanical design skills and an interest in developing and improving physical products.
- Hands-on and comfortable working on the production floor.
- Innovative and curious about better ways to design and manufacture products.
- Detail-oriented and technically minded.
- A strong problem solver and self-starter.
- Collaborative and comfortable working with machinists, production employees, engineers, and leadership.
- Flexible enough to move between product design, CNC/manufacturing support, tooling, and process engineering.
Why Blac-Rac?
Because Blac-Rac is vertically integrated, you’ll have the opportunity to see your work through from initial design to manufacturing to finished product. You’ll be able to design and improve products, work directly with the people who manufacture them, solve real-world engineering challenges, and see the results firsthand.
