Location: 13 Hautu Drive, Wiri, Auckland, 2022, New Zealand
Hours: 35 hours per week, full-time
Salary Range: $53 – $56 per hour
About Us:
NEH INTERNATIONAL LIMITED is a well-established packaging manufacturer and wholesale supplier, operating in Auckland since 2008. We specialise in a comprehensive range of packaging solutions — including cartons, tapes, adhesive labels, printed boxes, stretch film, pallets, PET bottles, PP caps, PE bags, aluminium film, and foil — serving a diverse client base across New Zealand. As a registered company with a strong presence in the contract packing and filling sector, we are committed to quality, innovation, and delivering reliable packaging solutions. Our operations are supported by a dedicated team and a modern facility in Mangere.
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Mechanical Engineer to provide essential technical support to our engineering and production teams. In this role, you will assist in the design, installation, maintenance, and optimisation of packaging machinery and production line systems. You will work closely with engineers and production staff to troubleshoot mechanical issues, implement preventative maintenance, and support continuous improvement initiatives across our manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Functional Analysis: Evaluate and refine functional statements, organisational charts, and project data to define worker roles, responsibilities, and identify overlaps or redundancies across teams.
Work Measurement Programmes: Develop and implement work measurement frameworks, analyse work samples, and establish labour utilisation standards to maximise workforce productivity and efficiency.
Operational Efficiency Analysis: Review workforce deployment, facility layouts, operational data, and production schedules and costs to determine optimal efficiency for both personnel and equipment.
Mechanical Design: Design mechanical equipment, machinery, components, and products for manufacturing, as well as complete plant systems and infrastructure for construction projects.
Specification Development: Prepare comprehensive manufacturing specifications, determining materials, equipment, piping, material flow, capacities, and plant layouts.
Project Management: Plan, organise, and oversee project labour, ensuring timely procurement and delivery of materials, plant, and equipment required for project execution.
Standards and Policy Implementation: Establish and enforce standards and policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with engineering principles and safety regulations.
Performance Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of mechanical systems and equipment to verify operational efficiency and promptly address any performance issues.
Maintenance Coordination: Oversee the maintenance of mechanical systems, coordinate new design requirements, surveys, and maintenance scheduling to ensure operational continuity.
Plant Operations Oversight: Plan, design, and direct the assembly, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of mechanical and process plant installations, ensuring safety and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications & Experience:
A New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical) or an equivalent qualification at NZQF Level 6 or higher in a relevant field.
If the above qualification is not met, a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical engineering technology, maintenance, or a closely related technical role is required, preferably in a manufacturing or packaging environment.
3 . Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and engineering specifications.
Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyor systems.
Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Understanding of preventative maintenance practices and reliability-centred maintenance.
Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, operators, and production staff.
What We Offer:
The opportunity to work with a well-established packaging manufacturer with a diverse product portfolio.
Hands-on involvement in a dynamic production environment with exposure to a wide range of packaging machinery.
A supportive and collaborative team environment.
