What they need

We are looking for a site-based Mechanical Engineer to support the Mechanical Package Managers, Design Managers and site team on a major data centre project in Seinäjoki. You will provide practical support across design, construction, quality, commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

Site Engineering & Delivery Support

  • Support look-ahead planning, design coordination, sequencing, access, logistics and work-area readiness.
  • Monitor subcontractor and vendor activities, confirm work follows approved information, and raise technical, quality or programme concerns.
  • Help resolve RFIs, technical queries, non-conformities and site issues with the design, construction and commissioning teams.

Design, Procurement & Technical Assurance

  • Review drawings, specifications and calculations for scope, constructability, maintainability, access and coordination.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, equipment schedules, P&IDs, hydraulic calculations and installation proposals for approval by the relevant lead.
  • Support procurement reviews, material approvals, vendor coordination and equipment delivery readiness.
  • Check that materials and equipment are received, stored, protected and handled correctly.
  • Keep clear records of design changes, field instructions, deviations and scope clarifications.

Construction, Interfaces & Reporting

  • Coordinate interfaces with Electrical, CSA, BMS, Fire Protection, ICT/ELV, Logistics, Design, Procurement, Commissioning and Operations teams.
  • Track progress, inspections, constraints, defects and close-out actions, and provide clear updates.
  • Join coordination meetings, site walk-downs and clash reviews to maintain safe, workable construction areas.

Mechanical Systems

  • Support installation and inspection of cooling plant, chilled- and condenser-water systems, AHUs, CRAH/CRAC units, CDUs, pumps, heat exchangers, pipework, water treatment, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, fire-protection interfaces and BMS controls.
  • Check that resilient mechanical distribution, controls, alarms and failover arrangements follow the approved design and sequence of operations.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Support safe working and compliance with permits, approved designs, project standards, Finnish regulations and client requirements.
  • Review method statements, risk assessments and inspection plans, and support inspections, non-conformance follow-up and punch-list closure.

Testing, Commissioning & Handover

  • Support mechanical completion, walk-downs, FAT/SAT, pressure testing, flushing, water treatment, TAB, start-up, functional testing and IST.
  • Coordinate, collect and check subcontractor handover documents, including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, test records, certificates, asset data, training records, warranties and snag-closure evidence.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related field; an equivalent technical or trade qualification with relevant experience may also be considered.
  • At least 6 years’ experience delivering mechanical systems on major construction projects, with strong site experience.
  • Experience supporting mechanical works from design coordination through installation, commissioning and handover.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling plant, chilled-water systems, pumps, heat exchangers, pipework, ventilation, water treatment, drainage and controls.
  • Confident reviewing drawings, specifications, P&IDs, schedules, submittals, vendor information and BIM outputs.
  • Working knowledge of QA/QC records, work packs, completions systems, procurement and change control.
  • Strong organisation, communication and problem-solving skills, with clear written and spoken English.

Desirable Criteria

  • Data centre, mission-critical, pharmaceutical or advanced-technology project experience.
  • Experience with digital construction, QA/QC or commissioning platforms, functional testing, IST and operational handover.
