Mechanical Engineer - Contract

Dixon Directional is a directional drilling company in Tomball, Texas, built on three values: reliability, speed and partnership. We design and build much of our own equipment, and we’re looking for a contract mechanical engineer to support special projects around our shop.

Position details

• Type: Independent contractor (1099), 2 months or longer, with possible extension
• Location: Hybrid. Part of the week on site at our Tomball shop, the rest remote
• Pay: $40–$55 per hour, depending on experience

What you’ll do

• Design, model and improve tools, equipment and assemblies in SolidWorks
• Create detailed part and assembly drawings with proper tolerances
• Work hands-on with our shop team to build, test and troubleshoot designs
• Support projects that combine mechanical components with electrical and controls systems
• Document designs and keep project files organized

What we’re looking for

• Strong SolidWorks skills (parts, assemblies and drawings)
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving
• Solid understanding of tolerances, fits and assembly
• Working knowledge of electrical systems and controls
• Organized, dependable and able to manage your own time on hybrid work
• Hard-working, with good communication and a team-first attitude
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience preferred
• Oilfield or drilling equipment experience is a plus
