The Role

As the lead mechanical authority on-site, you will combine hands-on operational maintenance with project delivery . You will take responsibility for ensuring system reliability across a mix of modern and legacy infrastructure, managing critical plant, and driving compliance standards in an environment where zero-downtime is essential.

Key Requirements

  • Proven background in mechanical engineering within building services, facilities management, or critical infrastructure (e.g., defence, healthcare, data centres).
  • Strong hands-on experience maintaining HVAC systems, pumps, valves, pipework, and water hygiene systems.
  • Practical knowledge of diagnosing faults and extending the lifecycle of legacy mechanical plant.
  • Deep understanding of statutory compliance and safe working practices.
  • Ex-military engineers (Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines, RAF) with relevant mechanical building services or marine engineering experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Security Requirements

  • Candidates must be sole UK nationals eligible for Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
  • Candidates can commence the role with Security Check (SC) clearance while undergoing the DV clearance process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take technical ownership of all mechanical systems, PPM delivery, and reactive maintenance across the estate.
  • Diagnose complex faults and perform hands-on troubleshooting across HVAC systems, chillers, AHUs, pressurisation, water hygiene, and fuel storage plant.
  • Manage, maintain, and upgrade ageing or legacy mechanical infrastructure to ensure continuous reliability.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations, safe systems of work, and health and safety standards.
  • Oversee specialist sub-contractors for both routine maintenance and project delivery.
  • Produce technical specifications, reports, and scope-of-work documents for remedial works and system upgrades.
