Mechanical Engineer, PE

HMG & Associates is seeking a licensed Senior Mechanical Engineer, PE fully-time position requires expertise in HVAC and Plumbing systems design, specifically for healthcare facilities, educational institutions (K-12 and higher education), commercial buildings, and industrial facilities. As a Licensed Mechanical Engineer, you will lead teams in designing and producing construction documents for complex mechanical systems that meet the unique requirements of these specialized environments.

You will apply engineering principles to design healthcare-specific systems including medical gas, isolation rooms, operating rooms, and other critical care areas. For educational facilities, you'll focus on creating efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions that optimize indoor air quality and energy performance while managing strict budget constraints. The right candidate will drive the success of our mechanical team through technical leadership and mentorship of junior staff. You'll develop new business opportunities in the healthcare and education sectors while ensuring project success through effective communication with clients, architects, and contractors.

This is a salaried, full-time position in San Antonio, Texas.

Qualifications & Skills:

· Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program required

· Professional Engineer licensed in Texas with multi-state reciprocity preferred

· Minimum eight (8) years' experience in mechanical/plumbing design for healthcare or educational facilities

· Demonstrated expertise in designing various HVAC systems including:

• Split DX systems

• Rooftop units

• Air handling units

• Boiler systems

• Chiller plants

• Four-pipe systems

· Expert knowledge of healthcare facility codes ( ASHRAE 170) and educational facility design standards

· Experience with medical gas system design and complex ventilation requirements

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Proficient in REVIT, AutoCAD, Bluebeam

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Teams

· Valid driver's license

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead mechanical system design for healthcare and educational facilities from concept through completion

· Design and specify complex HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, and air handling units

· Design specialized systems for operating rooms, Data Centers, VOA, Analytical, Organic, Inorganic,

Metals Laboratories, BSL-1, 2, and 3 Laboratories, cleanrooms, Dry-Rooms (10% RH or less)

classrooms, and industrial spaces

· Perform complex load calculations and equipment selection for critical environments

· Mentor junior staff in healthcare and educational facility design principles

· Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific codes and energy efficiency requirements

· Coordinate with multiple disciplines to produce fully integrated construction documents

· Manage project schedules and budgets for complex institutional projects

· Travel to project sites as needed
