Mechanical Engineer - Supplier Development and Localization

We are hiring a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to build and develop the Indian supplier base for a large industrial water treatment system being assembled in Kota, Rajasthan, for an international water-technology company. You will find and develop the Indian manufacturers who make its mechanical parts, fabrications and equipment, and handle the sourcing of those parts.

This is an engineering role, not a desk purchasing role. You should understand machines, read drawings, and be comfortable on a supplier's shop floor.

Supplier Development & Localization

• Identify and map Indian manufacturers based on drawings, specifications and localization needs
• Visit supplier facilities and assess machinery, processes, capacity and quality systems
• Develop new suppliers to meet technical, quality, cost and delivery standards
• Coordinate samples, trials, technical clarifications, corrective actions and qualification through to approval
• Localize imported mechanical components and drive cost reduction
• Maintain a structured supplier pipeline with clear recommendations

Technical Assessment & Sourcing

• Review mechanical drawings and specifications to select the right suppliers
• Assess machining, fabrication, casting, welding and assembly processes
• Run RFQs and evaluate offers on technical and commercial grounds
• Identify capability or quality gaps and work with suppliers to close them
• Conduct supplier evaluations and capability audits

On-Ground Project Support

• Represent the company at supplier works and at the Kota assembly site
• Flag bottlenecks and risks early, and give practical on-ground feedback
• Coordinate between suppliers, the client and the technical team
• Send concise progress updates, risks and next actions

What we're looking for

• 47 years in vendor development, supplier development, localization, supplier quality or manufacturing engineering
• B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical or Production Engineering
• Strong mechanical understanding of machines, fabrication and large equipment assemblies
• Personally identified, evaluated and developed new suppliers (not only placed purchase orders)
• Good English and Hindi
• Independent, practical and cost-conscious
• Willing to travel frequently to suppliers across India and to Kota

Preferred background
Water treatment, pumps, valves, piping or filtration equipment. Industrial equipment, process equipment, EPC, machining, fabrication, castings and auto components also considered.

Not a fit
Pure purchase, P2P or ERP-processing profiles, and candidates without shop-floor or supplier-development experience.

Location
Based anywhere in India, with frequent supplier travel and regular time in Kota, Rajasthan.
