Mechanical Engineering Intern

Key Responsibilities

• Draft and refine 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings prioritizing lightweighting, design for disassembly, and recyclability using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Fusion 360.
• Build, physically test, and evaluate mechanical prototypes for durability, energy efficiency, and low-carbon operation.
• Perform basic energy consumption, fluid flow, and thermal efficiency calculations, as well as assist with screening materials for lower carbon footprints (Life Cycle Assessment).
• Maintain engineering change orders (ECOs), draft eco-design compliance documentation, update Bills of Materials (BOM) with recycled/bio-based components, and record test data.
• Collaborate with sustainable material suppliers, manufacturing partners, and sustainability specialists to optimize clean-tech product lines.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or any related course

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software and basic FEA/simulation tools.
• Understanding of eco-design principles, energy efficiency metrics, or sustainable material properties (e.g., biopolymers, recycled alloys).
• Familiarity with physical lab equipment, rapid prototyping (such as 3D printing), and standard measurement tools (calipers, flow meters, thermal sensors).
• Ability to evaluate mechanical tradeoffs between performance, structural integrity, cost, and environmental impact.
