Mechanical Engineering Manager

Our client is a long-established, employee-owned A/E firm in Central New York with a strong track record across public and private sector work. They’re looking for a Mechanical Engineering Department Leader : someone who can do the technical work and lead the team doing it.

This isn’t a pure management role, and it isn’t a pure design role. It’s for an engineer who’s genuinely good at both, someone who can run complex design projects, develop the people around them, and help grow the practice. You don’t need to be based in Syracuse, but you should be able to show up for clients and job sites when it counts. For someone who wants to build something, there’s a clear runway to Principal-level responsibility and real firm ownership through their employee stock ownership program.

What the role covers:

• Leading the planning, design, and delivery of mechanical and building systems across a diverse project portfolio
• Providing technical oversight and quality control for MEP engineering deliverables
• Mentoring and developing junior and mid-level engineering staff
• Helping manage department workload, staffing, and project delivery standards
• Developing and maintaining relationships with public and private sector clients
• Participating in project pursuits, proposals, and interviews
• Collaborating with firm leadership on departmental goals and long-range planning
• Participating in firm ownership and leadership development

What they’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 8+ years of building systems design experience in the A/E industry
• EIT with active PE pursuit, or current PE registration (NYS PE preferred)
• Broader MEP background welcome — HVAC-focused or full mechanical/electrical scope
• Strong communication, client interaction, and leadership skills
• Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards
• U.S. Citizenship required
