CRAVE TECHNICAL
Mechanical Engineering Technician
Colorado Springs, Colorado
About the Role
Crave Technical is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our Engineering team. This role programs CNC machining operations, builds BOMs and routings in our ERP system, and produces detailed CAD drawings that connect design intent to shop-floor execution. This is a hands-on opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Technician who enjoys technically challenging, customer-focused work and wants to continue developing CAM programming, ERP-based BOM and routing management, and precision CAD drafting in an industrial automation and engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
· Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs (mill, lathe, and/or multi-axis) using CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360 CAM, or SolidCAM based on part drawings and 3D models
· Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and toolpaths to ensure efficient, accurate, and repeatable machining processes
· Simulate and verify CNC programs prior to shop-floor release to prevent tooling collisions, scrap, and downtime
· Troubleshoot and revise CAM programs in response to machining issues, tolerance problems, or engineering changes
· Create and maintain accurate multi-level Bills of Material (BOMs) in the ERP system for new and revised assemblies
· Develop manufacturing routings, including operation sequences, work centers, setup and run times, and required tooling
· Ensure BOMs and routings reflect current engineering revisions and coordinate updates through the engineering change process (ECO/ECN)
· Maintain part numbering, revision control, and item master data integrity within the ERP system
· Create and revise 2D detail and assembly drawings from 3D CAD models using software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor
· Apply proper dimensioning, tolerancing, and GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and company drafting standards
· Prepare drawings for release, including title blocks, revision history, notes, and material/finish specifications
· Redline and update drawings based on engineering changes, manufacturing feedback, or quality/inspection findings
· Interface with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve manufacturability issues and support continuous improvement
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
Required
· Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Machine Tool Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
· 2+ years of hands-on experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, or similar)
· Experience creating and maintaining BOMs and routings within an ERP/MRP system
· Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar) for detail and assembly drawings
· Working knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal, fabrication, etc.)
· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
· Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
Preferred
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field
· Certification in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) or relevant CAD/CAM software
· Experience with multi-axis CNC programming (4-axis/5-axis)
· Familiarity with ERP platforms such as Epicor, Global Shop Solutions, JobBOSS, or SAP
· Prior experience in a job shop, contract manufacturing, or engineering services environment
Ongoing Training
Mechanical Engineering Technician is expected to complete periodic refresher training and additional technical, safety,
software, or process training as required by Crave Technical, customer requirements, changes in job
responsibilities, or updates to company standards and procedures.
Physical & Work Requirements
· Primarily an office/shop environment with regular exposure to the manufacturing floor
· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
· Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. and use of standard PPE when on the production floor
· May require close visual work for detailed drawing review and inspection
