About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established organization in the commercial and industrial construction industry and is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join their team in the Pittsburgh area.

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC and plumbing projects using construction plans, specifications, industry knowledge, and vendor/subcontractor pricing. This position will manage estimates from the initial project introduction through proposal submission and the beginning of construction.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in HVAC and/or plumbing estimating, excellent plan-reading abilities, and the ability to manage multiple bids and estimating assignments simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform HVAC and plumbing estimating, take-offs, and estimate recaps.
• Manage estimating activities from project introduction through the beginning of construction.
• Create and maintain well-organized and accurate estimate files.
• Manage preconstruction correspondence, including bid invitations, RFPs, RFIs, addenda, and scope-of-work clarifications.
• Review construction documents and develop a thorough understanding of the project scope.
• Prepare comprehensive estimates with detailed line items appropriate to each project's scope.
• Solicit, evaluate, and maintain competitive pricing from qualified subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Coordinate project site visits when necessary to verify project conditions, scope, and familiarity with the work.
• Define and confirm scopes of work with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Prepare clear and detailed written scope sheets.
• Monitor open bids, RFPs, and assigned estimates while maintaining deadlines and priorities.
• Prepare and submit professional, accurate, and timely proposals.
• Maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
• Work closely with the Estimating Manager and other internal teams throughout the estimating and preconstruction process.

Qualifications Required

• 5+ years of estimating experience, preferably within HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, or commercial/industrial construction.
• Alternatively, 5+ years of welding, fitting, or installation experience with the ability to transition into estimating.
• Strong ability to read and interpret civil, architectural, structural, and mechanical plans and specifications.
• Ability to understand blueprints, proposals, bid documents, and other construction-related documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, bids, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred

• Experience with Trimble AutoBid Enterprise or similar construction estimating software.
• Experience estimating HVAC and plumbing projects.
• Commercial and/or industrial construction experience.
• Associate degree in construction, engineering, or a related field.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
