About Yates Company, LLC

Yates Company, LLC is a trusted mechanical contractor serving Central and South Texas with commercial HVAC service, equipment replacements, hydronic piping work, and related mechanical construction. We partner with school districts, universities, municipalities, healthcare facilities, and commercial owners to deliver dependable mechanical solutions with a strong emphasis on quality, responsiveness, and long-term relationships.

Position Summary

Yates Company, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Estimator (HVAC) to develop accurate, timely, and competitive estimates for commercial mechanical replacement and retrofit projects. This role is centered on equipment replacement and light mechanical construction work involving chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, rooftop units, split systems, air handlers, duct systems, and hydronic piping.

The ideal candidate can review drawings, specifications, equipment selections, and field conditions, then turn that information into complete turnkey proposals with clear scope, sound labor planning, and strong vendor and subcontractor coverage. This is a great opportunity for someone who understands commercial HVAC systems and wants to help support the continued growth of a well-established company.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare accurate estimates and proposals for commercial HVAC replacement, retrofit, and small-project mechanical work.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and field conditions to define project scope, access constraints, demolition requirements, and installation needs.
  • Perform material takeoffs, labor planning, and equipment pricing to build complete turnkey estimates.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers, vendors, and trade partners to secure current pricing, lead times, and scope coverage.
  • Work with electrical, roofing, concrete, ductwork, welding, piping, rigging, crane, and other trade partners to develop complete pricing for equipment replacement projects.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid walks, and customer meetings to gather information and verify existing conditions when needed.
  • Prepare professional proposals with clearly defined inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, clarifications, and schedule considerations.
  • Collaborate with operations, project management, and field leadership to support constructability review and smooth turnover on awarded work.
  • Track open opportunities, follow up on pending proposals, and help maintain organized estimating files and documentation.

What We're Looking For

  • Three or more years of experience in commercial HVAC estimating, mechanical project management, mechanical construction, or a closely related role preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC replacement projects involving chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, rooftop units, split systems, air handlers, piping systems, and duct systems.
  • Ability to review plans, specifications, and field information and develop complete turnkey estimates for commercial mechanical work.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors and subcontractors for electrical, roofing, concrete, ductwork, welding, piping, rigging, and related support trades.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general estimating, proposal, and document management workflows.
  • Valid driver license for site visits, customer meetings, and pre-bid walkthroughs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional technical training, trade school, or college coursework related to mechanical systems, construction, or estimating.
  • Experience estimating public, institutional, healthcare, industrial, or other commercial mechanical projects.
  • Field knowledge related to equipment replacement, shutdown planning, rigging, and installation sequencing.

Work Environment

This position is based primarily in an office environment, with periodic travel to job sites, pre-bid meetings, and customer facilities. Project locations may include commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, municipal, and educational environments, with both indoor and outdoor conditions.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, reviewing plans, and handling documents.
  • Visual acuity required to review drawings, specifications, spreadsheets, proposals, and project correspondence.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk job sites, climb stairs, and move between office and field environments as needed.
  • Climb ladders and navigate through building mechanical rooms.
  • Occasional lifting of plans, documents, and office materials, with team lifting for heavier items as needed.
