Mechanical Lead

Key Roles & Responsibilities Mechanical Lead (Plant Design)

1. Mechanical Engineering & Plant Design

• Lead conceptual, basic and detailed mechanical engineering for industrial EPC projects.
• Oversee plant layouts, equipment arrangements, piping designs and 3D plant modeling.
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, engineering specifications and mechanical design deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with applicable ASME, API, ASTM, IS and other engineering standards.

2. Equipment & Piping Engineering

• Lead engineering of static and rotating equipment, including vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, pumps and utility systems.
• Supervise piping layouts, isometrics, material specifications, pipe supports and stress analysis coordination.
• Review equipment datasheets, GA drawings, technical specifications, MTOs and BOQs.
• Ensure design accuracy, operational safety, maintainability and constructability.

3. Engineering Deliverables & Quality

• Plan, allocate, review and ensure timely completion of mechanical engineering deliverables.
• Conduct design reviews, 3D model reviews, clash detection and technical validations.
• Implement engineering quality standards, design optimization and document control procedures.
• Minimize design revisions, engineering errors and site rework.

4. Multidisciplinary & Vendor Coordination

• Coordinate with Process, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation and Project Execution teams.
• Prepare technical requisitions, evaluate vendor proposals and review vendor drawings.
• Resolve design interfaces, technical queries and engineering challenges.
• Participate in client meetings, technical discussions and engineering reviews.

5. Project Execution & Site Support

• Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, installation and commissioning.
• Resolve site technical issues, design modifications and engineering change requests.
• Coordinate with project managers to meet engineering schedules and project milestones.
• Support value engineering, material optimization and cost-effective design solutions.

6. Team Leadership & Performance

• Lead, mentor and supervise mechanical engineers, piping designers and 3D modelers.
• Monitor engineering productivity, deliverable quality, resource utilization and timelines.
• Establish standardized engineering practices and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure ownership, accountability and effective collaboration across engineering teams.
