The Role

Reporting to the Support Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and improvement of production machinery, equipment and associated plant. You will take a hands-on approach to fault finding, preventative maintenance and breakdown response, helping to minimise downtime and maximise production efficiency.

Working closely with the engineering and production teams, you will also support equipment modifications, machine builds and ongoing improvements to our manufacturing processes.

Duties will include:

  • Diagnose faults, identify root causes and carry out effective mechanical repairs to minimise production downtime.
  • Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns and emergencies, following all relevant health and safety procedures.
  • Undertake equipment alterations, modifications and improvements to enhance reliability, performance and safety.
  • Maintain production machinery and ancillary equipment to ensure consistent and efficient operation.
  • Support the programming, assembly, installation and commissioning of production machinery.
  • Work with the Support Engineer and Production Coordinator to communicate equipment availability and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and contractors regarding repairs, quotations, costs, delivery times and technical support.
  • Ensure spare parts are identified, ordered and available when required.
  • Support the standardisation of machinery, components and maintenance procedures across the business.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to technicians and apprentices, including electrical awareness and training where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, workshop organisation and safe working practices.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures and all applicable health and safety requirements.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required by the departmental manager.

About You

We are looking for someone who is practical, methodical and solutions-focused, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing production machinery and associated equipment.
  • The ability to identify the root cause of equipment failures and implement effective, lasting solutions.
  • A good understanding of preventative maintenance and machinery reliability.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, manuals and technical documentation.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to liaise with production colleagues, suppliers and external contractors.
  • A proactive attitude towards health and safety, housekeeping and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and respond effectively to changing production demands.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience working with automated production machinery and ancillary equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical fault finding, control systems or machine programming.
  • Experience supporting machine builds, modifications and commissioning.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or training to apprentices and colleagues.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to contribute directly to production performance and equipment reliability.
  • A varied role covering preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and engineering improvements.
