Mechanical Service Engineer – Development – Underground Equipment

About the role

Komatsu Underground is seeking an experienced Mechanical Service Engineer to support customers across the Illawarra region. This 12-month fixed-term opportunity offers the chance to work closely with underground coal mining customers, providing specialist technical support to improve equipment reliability, availability and performance. Working across multiple customer sites, you'll play a key role in delivering world-class aftermarket support while building valuable experience with a leading global OEM.

Key responsibilities

• Provide customers with proactive advice and technical support.
• Facilitate flawless start-up and commissioning of underground mining equipment.
• Deliver advanced technical support for Joy equipment in the field.
• Support engineering activities and be directly involved with machine commissioning.
• Investigate equipment failures and identify root causes.
• Collate field data and evidence for Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities involving major failures and unresolved reliability issues.
• Coordinate new product field trials and document results, including opportunities for product enhancement.
• Work closely with customer maintenance and operational teams to improve equipment reliability, availability and performance.
• Build strong customer relationships through exceptional technical support.
• Engage with key stakeholders to identify opportunities and provide solutions that meet customer requirements.

About you

• Mechanical Trade Qualification.
• Experience working underground with development mining equipment.
• Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Experience supporting mining equipment reliability and performance.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage customer priorities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
• Experience supporting Joy underground mining equipment.
• Strong knowledge of Joy Continuous Miners and Shuttle Cars.
• Underground coal mining experience, particularly within development operations.
