What they need

About the Role

Tudelu is seeking a Mechanical Design/Structural Engineer with at least 3 years of relevant experience, with 3–5+ years preferred, to support our motorized wall divider systems and Modulux aluminum canopies and pergolas.

This is a hands-on role covering product design, structural calculations, shop drawings, estimating, and manufacturing support. You will work directly with our shop, customers, contractors, and outside engineers to take projects from initial concept through fabrication and installation.

What You’ll Do

  • Create 3D models, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation details using SolidWorks and SketchUp/Layout.
  • Review architectural plans, structural drawings, specifications, and field measurements to determine project requirements.
  • Perform structural calculations for canopies and pergolas, including rod-supported, cantilevered, and post-supported systems.
  • Evaluate structural members, brackets, plates, anchors, and fasteners for strength and deflection.
  • Build and review structural analysis models using VersaFrame or similar software and verify results with hand calculations.
  • Develop attachment details for wood, steel, concrete, and masonry, accounting for façade materials and site conditions.
  • Coordinate with licensed professional engineers for calculation reviews and stamped drawings.
  • Prepare bills of materials, cut lists, hardware schedules, material takeoffs, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare and update customer quotes for products, accessories, lighting, shipping, and installation.
  • Support fabrication and assembly by answering shop questions, resolving design issues, and improving production details.
  • Research and source hardware, fasteners, extrusions, and components; coordinate with suppliers and finishing vendors.
  • Develop and test new components and improvements to existing canopy and motorized wall systems.
  • Support mechanical integration and troubleshooting of motors, roller tubes, guides, brackets, and control systems.
  • Prepare customer renderings showing finishes, lighting, louvers, and product configurations.
  • Operate Bambu Lab 3D printers and use Bambu Studio to produce prototypes and production-support parts.
  • Communicate with customers, architects, contractors, and installers to resolve technical questions and installation challenges.
  • Maintain drawing revisions, technical specifications, installation manuals, packaging information, and internal training documents.
  • Manage multiple projects and coordinate drawing approvals, material requirements, and production priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and preparation of detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, load paths, mechanical assemblies, and connection design.
  • Experience with structural analysis or finite element analysis software.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and structural construction documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for calculations, estimating, and bills of materials.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with fabrication and installation teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with aluminum extrusions, architectural metalwork, canopies, pergolas, or similar fabricated products.
  • Familiarity with SketchUp/Layout, VersaFrame, and Hilti PROFIS.
  • Experience with ASD/LRFD design methods and anchor and fastener calculations.
  • Experience with motorized products, product development, and 3D printing.
  • Practical knowledge of fabrication methods, assembly tolerances, and installation requirements.
