Job Summary

We are looking for a Mechatronics Engineer to design, develop and deploy interactive electromechanical systems for events, exhibitions, brand activations and experience centres. The role combines embedded programming, electronics, motor control and robotics to deliver reliable installations, from initial prototyping through on-site operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop interactive systems integrating electronics, sensors, motors, robotic arms and software applications.
• Design electronic schematics and PCB layouts, and assemble, prototype and test custom control boards.
• Develop embedded firmware using C/C++ and Python for Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi and PLC-based systems.
• Implement precise motor control and synchronised movement for kinetic displays and interactive installations.
• Program and integrate industrial robotic arms with custom control interfaces and application logic.
• Establish communication between hardware and software using protocols such as RS485, Modbus RTU/TCP, UDP, TCP/IP, CAN, SPI, I2C and UART.
• Develop wired and wireless control systems using Ethernet, Wi-Fi, ESP-NOW, MQTT and Bluetooth.
• Build desktop control applications using Qt or PySide6 for monitoring, calibration, scenario playback and manual operation.
• Integrate computer vision using OpenCV for object detection and automated interactions.
• Coordinate with Unity developers, creative teams and technical specialists to integrate hardware with digital experiences.
• Connect control systems with audiovisual applications for video triggering, lighting and coordinated playback.
• Perform wiring, assembly, calibration, system testing and troubleshooting.
• Support on-site installation, commissioning, rehearsals and live technical operation.
• Maintain technical documentation, wiring diagrams, component lists, source code and operating instructions.
• Track development progress, identify technical dependencies and complete deliverables within agreed timelines.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in embedded systems, electromechanical integration or robotics.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
• Practical experience with microcontrollers, PCB design and hardware prototyping.
• Experience with motor control, sensors and industrial communication protocols.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot hardware, firmware and network communication.
• Experience developing real-time control interfaces and integrating hardware with software.
• A portfolio demonstrating completed embedded systems, robotic projects or interactive installations.

Preferred Technical Skills

• PCB design using EasyEDA or Altium.
• Industrial robotic arm programming and integration.
• Qt, PySide6, OpenCV and PostgreSQL.
• PID control and sensor fusion.
• Network debugging using Wireshark or similar tools.
• Familiarity with TouchDesigner, Resolume Arena, Madrix, MadMapper or Novastar.
• Experience delivering kinetic displays and interactive systems for live events and exhibitions.
