Mechnical Trade Assistant

About the role:
Our client requires a practical, reliable and process-driven person for a Trade Assistant/Fire Sentry role. This is a temporary role and is expected to run until 18/12/2026.

You may be a student with some hands on experience looking to get a foot in the door in the engineering industry or a current labourer or trade assistant looking to extend your experience in engineering.

The main duties include:

• Assisting tradesmen with tools and equipment
• Using basic hand tools on maintenance and repair tasks
• Assisting Mechanical Fitters with their work
• General upkeep of Workshop and site
• Ensuring a safe working environment and mitigating risks

About the Company:
Our client is a stable, essential service business that is the major provider of engineering services to the marine industry in NZ, operating at NZ’s largest dry dock. They undertake major projects for the refurbishment of Naval vessels and offer a range of short and long term project based contracts.

Skills + Experience:
For this role, you will:

• Be prepared to undertake necessary training and happy to work in confined spaces and at heights
• Experience in a workshop or engineering environment
• Capable of operating power tools such as grinders and workshop machinery.
• Be diligent and reliable, with excellent communication skills
• A current driver’s license
• Clean criminal history
• Supply 2 verbal references

Pay + Benefits:

• Excellent hourly rate + overtime available
• You'll receive Confined Space Training (tickets will be valid for 3 years)
• PPE is provided (excluding safety boots, which you will supply)
