MECK Pre-K Assistant Teacher

Job Summary

Bright Kids Learning Academy is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and nurturing MECK Pre-K Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood education team.

The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for four-year-old children. This position plays an essential role in supporting classroom instruction, promoting kindergarten readiness, and fostering each child’s academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with implementing daily lesson plans, instructional activities, and the approved MECK Pre-K curriculum.
• Support children’s cognitive, language, literacy, social-emotional, and physical development through intentional, play-based learning.
• Provide individual and small-group instructional support to accommodate diverse learning needs.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
• Assist with classroom routines, transitions, meals, outdoor activities, and daily supervision.
• Observe and document children’s developmental progress and assist with classroom assessments.
• Promote positive behavior and appropriate classroom management practices.
• Establish positive, professional relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
• Participate in parent communication, family engagement activities, and classroom events as directed by the Lead Teacher.
• Follow all applicable North Carolina childcare licensing regulations, MECK Pre-K program requirements, and Academy policies.
• Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing training.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Possess a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or hold or be actively working toward an Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Birth-to-Kindergarten, or a related field.
• Candidates pursuing an Associate Degree must complete at least six semester credit hours annually, consistent with applicable program requirements.
• Ability to successfully complete required criminal background checks and meet North Carolina childcare employment requirements.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and school administration.
• Commitment to creating a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
• Previous experience in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or NC Pre-K/MECK Pre-K classroom.
• Familiarity with developmentally appropriate practices, early childhood assessments, and classroom management.
• Experience supporting children with diverse developmental and learning needs.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
